Tatkaal Scheme :
(A) If an applicant desires to obtain his passport under the Tatkal Scheme, a verification certificate as per the specimen at ANNEXURE ‘F’ and standard affidavit as Annexure “I” should be submitted along with the TATKAAL fee. The Passport Issuing Authority shall retain the right to verify in writing the authenticity of the Verification Certificate from the official who has issued it. All applicants seeking a passport out of turn under the TATKAAL Scheme are advised to submit their application, documentation, colour photographs with white or light background and fee as specified below. No proof of urgency is required for Out-of-Turn issue of passport. Post Police Verification shall be done in respect of all passports issued under the Tatkaal Scheme.

(B)Documents Required:
The applicant also has the option to obtain a passport under Tatkal Scheme on submission of three documents from the Fourteen documents as mentioned below, provided one of the three documents is a photo identity document and atleast one of the three is amongst the documents indicated at (a) to (i) and a standard affidavit (Annexure “I”) on non-judicial stamp paper duly attested by a Notary :
(a) Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC);
(b) Service Identity Card issued by State/Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings, local bodies or Public Limited Companies;
(c) SC/ST/ OBC Certificates;
(d) Freedom Fighter Identity Cards;
(e) Arms Licenses;
(f) Property Documents such as Pattas, Registered Deeds etc.;
(g) Rations Cards;
(h) Pension Documents such as ex-servicemen’s Pension Book/Pension Payment order, ex-servicemen’s Widow/Dependent Certificates, Old Age Pension Order, Widow Pension Order;
(i) Railway Identity Cards;
(j) Income Tax Identity (PAN) Cards;
(k) Bank/ Kisan/Post Office Passbooks;
(l) Student Identity Cards issued by Recognized Educational Institutions;
(m) Driving Licenses; and
(n) Birth Certificates issued under the RBD Act.

(All above documents to be produced in original along with self-attested copies)

The TATKAAL fee is in addition to the applicable passport fee and payable either in cash or DD in favor of Passport Officer concerned.

The additional fee for out of turn TATKAAL passport, would be as follows :
Fresh Passport:
1. Within 1-7 days of the date of Application
Rupees 1,500/- plus the passport fee of Rs.1000/-

2.Within 8-14 days of the date of Application
Rupees 1,000/- plus the passport fee of Rs.1000/-

Replacement of Passport (in lieu of Lost/Damage Passport) :
1.Within 1-7 days of the date of Application
Rupees 2,500/- plus the duplicate passport fee of Rs.2500/-

2.Within 8-14 days of the date of Application
Rupees 1,500/- plus the duplicate passport fee of Rs.2500/-

Re-issue cases after expiry of 10 years validity :
1.Within 3 working days of the date of application
Rupees 1,500/- plus the passport fee of Rs.1000/-

How long will it take to get a Tatkaal passport?

After successful application form submission, with final status as “Granted”, you can expect your passport to be dispatched as follows :
1. Type of Application : Tatkaal
Type of Police Verification : Police Verification is not required
Expected Time To Dispatch Passport : Within one working day excluding the date of submission of application.

2. Type of Application : Tatkaal
Type of Police Verification : Police Verification is required on a Post-Passport Issuance basis
Expected Time To Dispatch Passport : On third working day excluding the date of submission of application – without waiting for the Police Verification Report.

Note :
In complex cases, such as adoption, application on behalf of a minor from single parent, major change in name, duplicate passport, doubtful documentation, the processing time will be approximately 30 days excluding the date of submission of application. Mandatory Pre Police Verification cases such as Indian citizens of J&K and Nagaland would also need additional processing time.

Issue of passport is subject to data check in the system and finding no adverse entry/report.

Can I apply for passport under the Tatkaal scheme?
The final authority for the issuance of passport under the Tatkaal scheme lies with the passport office. But there are list of applicants who cannot apply for passport under the Tatkaal scheme. My passport booklet is damaged. I want to go abroad on urgent basis. What should I do?
In case your passport has been damaged but recognizable, i.e. passport number is readable, name is legible and photo is intact, then you can apply for reissue of passport under the Tatkaal scheme. But, if passport has been damaged beyond recognition, then you cannot apply under the Tatkaal scheme. In that case, you need to visit Passport Officer at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra to get the passport on urgent basis.

If parents have passport with adverse Police Verification Report or they have a criminal background, can passport be issued to minor on an urgent basis?
In such cases, minors can be issued passport under the Tatkaal scheme subject to Passport Officer’s (POs) approval.

Can Indian citizens belonging to Nagaland apply for the passport under the Tatkaal scheme?
No

    1. But birth certificate is also required as it is mentioned in the documents required.

    1. Retired Government Employees:
      Retired Government employees can be issued a passport on post police verification basis if they submit Pension Payment Order as an additional document along with the application form.

  10. WHAT IS THE TATKAAL APPOINTMENT TIMING?

    1. In order to facilitate submission of passport applications at Passport Seva Kendras, some types of services such as ‘Tatkaal’ and issuance of Police Clearance Certificates and some categories of applicants such as senior citizens, minors and differently-abled persons are allowed to submit their duly registered online applications with ARN number as Walk-in applicants. Applicants falling under these categories are also required to register their applications online and obtain ARN number and visit the nearest Passport Seva Kendra at their convenience (no prior appointment required). In addition, applicants should also refer to any advisory issued by the concerned Passport Offices from time to time

  11. I lost my passport. What to do now?

    1. Loss of passport should be immediately reported to the nearest Police Station and to the Passport Office (PO) or Indian Mission, if abroad. You can apply for “Reissue” of passport at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and submit the required documents along with your passport application form.

  12. My passport got expired 4 years ago. Can it be reissued? What is the procedure to reissue it?

    1. You have to fill up the Passport Application Form and apply for “Reissue of Passport”. You can submit the filled in application form at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSKwith in the jurisdiction of your Passport Office (PO). You must carry original and self attested photocopy of your expired passport and proof of your address. Fresh police verification is initiated if the passport has expired more than three years ago. Hence, fresh police verification will be required in your case.

  13. What are the documents required for a govt servant for applying passport? Whether govt servant necessarily be the resident of a place, where he is working? In case if his family resides far away from his working place, what is the method of applying for passport?

    1. For issuance of a fresh passport, Government/Public Sector/Statutory body employees need to submit either Identity Certificate in original as per Annexure “B” or No Objection Certificate (NOC) as per Annexure “M” as an additional document along with the application form. If he/she submits Annexure “B”, passport will be issued without police verification and if he/she submits Annexure “M”, passport will be issued on post police verification basis. For reissue of passport, Government/Public Sector/Statutory body employees need to submit No Objection Certificate (NOC) as per Annexure “M” as an additional document along with the application form.

      Government Employees: Government/Public Sector/Statutory body employees can be issued passport without police verification, if they submit Identity Certificate in original as per Annexure “B” as an additional document along with the application form. They can be issued a passport on post police verification basis, if they submit No Objection Certificate (NOC) (as per Annexure “M”) as an additional document along with the application form.

      Retired Government Employees: Retired Government employees can be issued a passport on post police verification basis if they submit Pension Payment Order as an additional document along with the application form.

      If a Government/Public Sector/Statutory body employee wants to make a major change in name, then he/she has to submit the following additional documents:
      ** Gazette Notification changing name in applicant’s department
      ** Fresh ID Certificate in changed name
      ** Deed poll/sworn affidavit as per Annexure “E”

      Hence, a leading newspaper cutting is not required to be submitted.
