Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship :
The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Higher Education, Government of India has introduced Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students during XI Five Year Plan. Directorate of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu is the implementing agency in the State of Tamil Nadu.

Objective :
This scheme is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from low income families to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the results of Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary (Plus Two) Examinations. Based on selection the scholarship would be awarded to the beneficiaries pursuing higher education in various disciplines like Engineering, Medical, Law, Arts, Science, Commerce etc.

Rate of Scholarships :
The scholarship will be given AT Rs.10,000/- per year at Under graduation level for first three years of College and University courses and AT Rs.20,000/- per year at Post graduation level in the same stream. Students pursuing professional courses would get Rs.20,000/- per year in the 4th & 5th year. The maximum duration of scholarship is for 5 year only.

Payment of Scholarship :
Scholarship will be paid to the selected students directly by the Central Government into a Bank Account opened by them.

Eligibility :
** Students who are above 80th percentile of successful candidates in the class XII examination of the State of Tamil Nadu.
** The scholarship would be available to those students who belong to non-creamy layer. At present, the income-ceiling is Rs. 6.00 lakhs per annum.
** Students who are pursuing regular courses only (not correspondence / distance mode / charted accountant / company secretaryship etc) from recognized educational institutions.
** Students not availing any other scholarship would be eligible for consideration under this Scheme.
** This is applicable to all categories of students both ‘general’ and ‘reserved’.
** The scholarship under this scheme is renewable from year to year up to Post Graduate level in the same stream.
** For all professional courses, scholarship will be renewed till the graduation level of that course.
** For all other courses the scholarship would be renewed up to a maximum of five years.
** The renewal will depend on promotion to the next class provided the scholar secures 60% or more marks or equivalent Grade Point Average in aggregate for the two preceding semesters or of the annual examination which determines his / her promotion to the next class.
** It will also be subject to discipline and maintenance of attendance of at least 75% by the scholar. Complaints against the scholars regarding indiscipline including any complaints of having indulged in ragging would lead to forfeiture of scholarship.
** The decision of MHRD, New Delhi will be final and binding in all such matters.
** Scholarship once cancelled will not be revived under any circumstances.

Selection Procedure :
Fresh Applications :
** Detailed advertisements will be published in the leading news papers for applying the scholarship during the last week of July every year.
** Application form and other documents will be made available in this website and at https://www.tndce.tn.gov.in/
** Eligible students can download the application forms and other annexure from the websites.
** Filled in applications with required enclosures have to reach the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu on or before the last date prescribed.
** On receipt of the filled-in applications with required enclosures the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu will scrutinize and short list the candidates as per MHRD’s guidelines.
** The details of eligible candidates will be sent to the National Scholarship Division of MHRD, New Delhi.
** The scholarship to the beneficiary will be paid through a designated bank. The name, address for communication and details of bank account of the student in which the scholarship is to be paid, have to be furnished correctly by the student.

Renewal Applications :
** Renewal application form and other documents will be made available in this website.
** Students who satisfy the eligibility conditions for renewal have to submit the prescribed application with required documents to the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Tamil Nadu.
** Procedures similar to processing of fresh applications will be followed further once the renewal applications are obtained and scrutinized.
