National Mathematics Talent Contests NMTC 2014 :
** The AMTI is a pioneer organization in promoting and conducting Mathematics Talent Tests in India. Last year (in the 45th National level tests) 93712 students from 622 institutions spread all over India participated at the screening level. About 10% of them were selected for the final Merit certificates and prizes were awarded to the deserving students.
** 36 among them from Tamil Nadu and Puduchery at the Junior & Inter levels have been sponsored to write the INMO 2014. From among them some are likely to be selected at the national level.
Aim of The Tests :
To discover and encourage students who have the capacity for original and creative thinking, readiness to attack unfamiliar and non-routine problems exhibiting a general mathematical ability appropriate to their level.

Medium :
English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil & Telugu. The medium for Senior level is English only.
Charges :
** Rs. 50/- per candidate (out of which Rs.5/- will be retained by the institution only for all expenses and Rs.45/- to be sent to AMTI.)
** No other form of payment is acceptable and the amount paid once is not refundable on any account.
Syllabus :
The syllabus for Mathematics Olympiad (Regional, National and International) is pre-degree college mathematics.
The areas covered are, mainly :
a)Algebra,
b) Geometry,
c) Number theory and
d) Graph theory & combinatorics.
Algebra : Polynomials, Solving equations, inequalities and complex numbers.
Geometry : Geometry of triangles and circles. (Trigonometric methods, vector methods, complex number methods, transformation geometry methods can also be used to solve problems)
Number Theory : Divisibility, Diophantine equations, congruence relations, prime numbers and elementary results on prime numbers.
Combinatorics & Graph Theory : Counting techniques, pigeon hole principle, principle of inclusion and exclusion, basic graph theory.
Note :
** Problems pertaining to these concepts will be of non-routine type with difficulty level increasing from RMO to INMO to IMO.
** Further to motivate this type of thinking from Class V onwards questions solvable by the best with clear knowledge of concepts introduced to them applied to problem solving will be set for primary (V & VI), sub-Junior (VII & VIII), Junior (IX & X) and Inter (XI & XII).
** A glance at the Questions & Solutions of previous years and the books published by the AMTI will facilitate students at all levels to understand the nature of Olympiad examinations. Please see details given in this file for how to get the books, the mode of payment etc.
Mode Of Examination :
1.Your institution shall be the centre for your students and the Principal or the Head of Mathematics Department shall be in charge of the proper conduct of the examinations for the PRELIMINARY LEVEL.
2. Individuals applying will be intimated the center at which they should take the examination.
3. Every candidate (except the senior level) will take a Preliminary Test.
Preliminary Test :
** It will consist of objective type questions in multiple choice types and fill in the blanks, each 50% of the total.
** The responses in the preliminary test will be written in the response sheet to be supplied by the AMTI. Preliminary test will be conducted in and your institution and evaluated BY YOU and the top about 10% scorers in the Preliminary Test will be intimated to us along with their answered response sheets and the mark lists of all candidates for each level by separately.

Final Test :
It will consist of essay type questions. It will be conducted in chosen centres in the respective states and the students appearing for the final tests shall write the test only in the centres allotted by the AMTI.
Spcial Note :
** Answered response sheets for the preliminary test and the answer books of the final test are to be dispatched on the same day of the examination and delayed receipts may not be evaluated.
** Senior Level students (college degree level) will take only the final test.
** For the final test, papers for writing answers will be supplied by AMTI and the cover page may be duly filled.
** On no account the date and time of the examination be altered by the centres.

Preliminary Test-23-August-2014, (Saturday) 2to4pm
Despatch of response sheets-31-08-2014 (same day)
Final Test-01-Noveber-2014 (Saturday) 1to4 pm
Despatch of Answer Books-01-11-2014 (same day) (only by Speed post)
Announcement of Results-By the end of the December 2014
Note :
* Delayed receipted papers and doubtful cases will not be evaluated.
Follow Up Programme :
** Cash Awards to the top 3 winners in each level, (1st position Rs.5000/-, 2nd Rs.2500/- and 3rd Rs.1250/-) (T.R. Raghava Sastry Award for the topper in XI Std) Merit Certificates for them and others selected with some cash award for the latter also will be given based on their revealing a reasonable level of mathematical maturity. All the students selected for the Final Level Test will get a certificate and a cash award. Enrichment contact courses are likely to be organized for the promising toppers.
** Scholarship effective from 2010 onwards.
** For those who get selected at INMO through AMTI, an adhoc sum of Rs. 10000/-(Rupees Ten thousand ) each will be given.
** For those who get selected for IMO from them a sum of Rs. 20000/- (Rupees Twenty thousand ) each will be given.

(a) A self addressed post card of the postal dept. for acknowledgement
(b) The filled in Data Sheet and
(c) A Demand Draft in favour of “The Association of Mathematics Teachers of India” payable at Chennai for the amount to be sent to AMTI (namely Rs. 45 x number of entries).

** Local Institutions / persons who contact through representatives may pay in cash against receipt.
Special Points To Note :
1. Entries in the proforma enclosed only will be processed.
2. Last date of receipt here, in our office at Chennai will be 31st July 2014 for entries and DD or cash.
3. The exact registered name of the institution should be incorporated in the application form. There have been instances of names not registered suitably with post offices and banks as our communications were not delivered. It is to be ensured by the applying institution.
4. For final examination candidates should report only at the centres fixed and no change will be permitted. If for any reason they are unable to do so they will forfeit the chance. No further claim will be entertained. Candidates may report with photo ID cards in the centre for taking the final exam.
5. Results are declared after taking enough care, checking and cross checking only. No claim for change will be entertained.
6. Communications are sent by post or courier well on time. Individual reminders cannot be done except for emergency by telephone or email.
7. This being a talent contest at all India level for final, marks alone do not speak. We may decide merit holders by interviews also.
8. Centres for final level will be intimated to participating schools later.
