Domain Name Renewal Process :
Check the Domain Name status through WHOIS query and collect the Domain details like ID, Expiration Date etc
Submit your Domain Name Renewal Request as given below :
For Domain Names already registered with NCST before year 2005:
** Submit Domain Name renewal request in writing in the specified format on the letter head
** of the concerned Department along with a copy of Domain registration certificate issued by NCST.
For Domain Names registered with NIC after year 2005 :
Domain Name renewal request in writing in the specified format on the letter head of the concerned Department.

Once the above stated Renewal process is completed, the Domain Registrar will process the request accordingly. The Registrar will contact you if any additional information about the renewal is required, prior to activation. If the request is in order, the domain name will be renewed and the same will be notified via email.
Please note the following :
** At present, the Domain Name renewal is entertained for a maximum period of two years as per the policy.
** As per the present policy, there is no fee for the domain name registrations / renewals under GOV.IN. However, if there is any change in the policy, the Registrar reserves the right to charge the fee for domain name registrations / renewals as well as cancel the registration on account of nonpayment.
** The domain will be renewed only on receipt of the Request letter (complete in all respect) and provided all the necessary conditions are satisfied.
Soon the Domain Name renewal services will be offered as On-Line services.

Domain Name Cancellation Procedure :
Submit your Domain Name Cancellation request in specified format on the department letter head signed by the same person/authority who has signed the authorization letter at the time of domain creation to the following address

Renewal and Cancellation Policy :
GOV.IN Domain Registry will cancel a domain in following conditions
No Authorization Letter for Domain Renewal :
** Initially each domain is registered for 2 years. After expiry of a domain, if the domain owner wishes to continue the domain name further, he needs to renew it by sending the Authorization Letter in prescribed format 30 days prior to the expiry date of the domain.
** The system auto renews a domain for one year in anticipation of getting the authorization letter.
** In case no authorization letter is received by the GOV.IN Registry even after 45 days of the domain expiry, the domain will be cancelled by the GOV.IN domain registrar.
Name Server Details Not Updated/ Domain not Hosted :
After registration of domain, the owner of domain must update the name server details and host it within 90 days of domain registration. In case the Name Server is not updated or/ and site is not hosted within the stipulated period, GOV.IN domain registry is empowered to cancel the domain.
