Eligibility Requirements :
** Allotment of gov.in is restricted to the Institutions of Indian Government at various levels right from Central, State/UT, District & Sub-District.
** In addition to online registration, the request should also be submitted in writing in the form of an Authorization Letter. The letter should be in the specified format on the pre-printer letter head of the concerned department
** Authorization Letter should be signed by the Head of the organization/institution in the case of Central Government. If the head of the institution is below Joint Secretary level, it should be forwarded by the Joint Secretary of the concerned ministry/department.
** While at State level the request should be from the Head of the organization/institution. If the head of the organization/institution is below Secretary Level, it should be forwarded by the Secretary of the concerned department.
** For registration at District & Sub-District levels, the request should come from the District Collector.
** In case of any PSU/ Board/ Authority, the Authorization Letter should be forwarded by the Joint Secretary of the parent Ministry/Department of the PSU/ Board/ Authority if of Central government else forwarded by the Principal Secretary of the concerned department if it is State Government PSU.
** Educational as well as research organizations are advised to avail the services of ERNET, the exclusive registrar for AC.IN/ EDU.IN/ RES.IN Domain names. Please visit the site https://registry.ernet.in/aboutus.aspx and follow the registration procedures to register a domain name under AC.IN/ EDU.IN/ RES.IN.
** As per the present policy, there is no fee for the domain name registrations under GOV.IN. However, if there is any change in the policy, the Registrar reserves the right to charge the fee for domain name registrations/renewals as well as cancel the registration on account of non payment.
** The administrative contact address to be filled in the on-line form must be same as the address of the concerned officer/Department of the government.
** Intermediaries or ISPs are not allowed to apply on behalf of any government department, for registration under this category.
** Domain Name should conform to the Domain Name Conventions.
** The domain will be activated and allotted on receipt of the Authorization letter and provided all the conditions given above are satisfied.

Domain Name Registration Process :
Below mentioned steps are to be followed to register your domain name :
** Determine if desirous Department/Organisation qualifies to receive a domain name under GOV.IN by reviewing the eligibility requirements.
** Review the domain naming conventions and ensure that the desired domain name complies with the conventions.
** Check availability for the desired domain name.
** Register the Domain Name request using Online Registration Service.

Submit an Authorization Letter at the earliest but not later than 30 days of completing the online registration to the following address :

** Otherwise, the request will stand cancelled and the domain name shall be released to others.
** Once the above stated Registration process is completed, the Domain Manager will process the request accordingly. The Registrar will contact you if any additional information about the registration is required, prior to activation. If the registration is in order, the domain name will be placed on Active Status and the same will be notified via email..
** As per the present policy, there is no fee for the domain name registrations under GOV.IN However, if there is any change in the policy, the Registrar reserves the right to charge the fee for domain name registrations/renewals as well as cancel the registration on account of non payment or any violation or non compliance to the laid down policies / procedures.
