IIT Bhubaneswar invites applications for the admission year 2014-15 to the Joint M. Tech. – Ph. D. Programme in

This programme has been designed to encourage bright students with research aptitude to enroll themselves for Ph.D. after completion of 3rd Semester of M.Tech. Programme. Desirous students having CGPA 8.0 and above at the end of 3rd Semester of the M. Tech. programme are eligible to opt for Ph. D. Otherwise a candidate can continue with his M.Tech. programme if he is not qualified for Ph.D. programme.
Students selected for Ph.D. Programme will have to complete the two year academic requirements of M.Tech. Programme before enrolment into Ph.D. and they will be awarded both the degrees together upon completion of Ph.D. programme successfully.

Eligibility:
Applied Geosciences : First Class in M. Sc. in Geology/ Applied Geology / Geological Sciences/ Geophysics/ Exploration Geophysics along with valid GATE score.
Essential/Desirable Requisite: Mathematics or Physics at B. Sc. Level essential

Civil Engineering : First Class in B. Tech./ B.E. in Civil Engineering or equivalent along with valid GATE score.

Climate Science & Technology :
First Class in M. Sc. In Atmospheric Science/Marine Science/ Oceanography/ Meteorology/ Physics/Chemistry/ Mathematics along with valid GATE score.
First Class in B. Tech./B.E. in Civil Engineering/Applied Mechanics/ Aeronautical Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering/ Computer Science & Engineering or equivalent along with valid GATE score.
Essential/Desirable Requisite: Mathematics or Physics at B. Sc. Level essential

Electronics & Communication Engineering :
First Class in B.Tech./ B.E. or equivalent in Electrical, Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering or equivalent along with valid GATE score.
Essential/Desirable Requisite: Electronics & Communication Engineering

Power System Engineering : First Class in B.Tech./ B.E. or equivalent degree in Electrical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering or equivalent (with valid GATE score in Electrical Engineering).
Essential/Desirable Requisite: Electrical Engineering

Materials Science and Engineering : First class in B.Tech./ B.E. or equivalent in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Ceramic, Chemical, Mechanical, Production Engineering and allied specializations with valid GATE score or M.Sc. in Materials Science along with valid GATE score
Essential/Desirable Requisite: Mathematics at B.Sc. level is desirable in case of M. Sc.

Mechanical Systems Design : First Class B. Tech. /B. E. or Equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (with valid GATE score)
Essential/Desirable Requisite: Mechanical Engineering

Thermal Science and Engineering : First Class B. Tech. /B. E. or Equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (with valid GATE score)

The Government of India rules regarding reservation of seats are followed for OBC/SC/ST candidates and Physically challenged persons (PC).

Sponsored Candidates : Candidates satisfying the eligibility and selection criteria and in service in the following establishments: i) Defence or other ministries of the Government of India or any other government organizations; ii) Established industrial research and development organizations; iii) Autonomous bodies and public undertakings and iv) Universities/Colleges are eligible for admission to the program as Sponsored Candidates.

Selection:
Selection of candidate is based on performance in GATE and personal interview/written test or both. The weightage for GATE Score and written test/interview will be 70% and 30% respectively.
Personal interviews will conducted at IIT Bhubaneswar
Note: A candidate who fails to appear for the Personal Interview/Written Test will not be considered for admission.

Assistantship: Students who are admitted in the Joint M.Tech. – Ph. D. programme will receive an assistantship of Rs.8000/- per month for the first two years and the students who are permitted to continue with the Ph.D. Programme will receive an additional assistantship of Rs.4000/- per month in the second year of their study. On completion of M.Tech. programme and after enrolment for Ph.D. these candidates will receive an assistantship of Rs.18,000 per month. However, the additional assistantship will be paid retrospectively after the Ph. D. registration.

Application Fee: Application fee is Rs.300 for General and OBC candidates and Rs.150 for SC/ST/PC candidates drawn in favour of “IIT Bhubaneswar” on any nationalized bank payable at Bhubaneswar. Female candidates are exempted from paying application fee.
