Intel India Embedded Challenge :
Intel® Higher Education Program, in collaboration with Intelligent Systems Group of Intel Technology India Pvt. Ltd., proudly presents the Intel India Embedded Challenge 2014 (“Intel IEC 2014 or “the Contest”) – An Embedded design contest for students, interested individuals and entrepreneurs from all over India. Intel IEC 2014 aims to inspire the vast technically savvy community in India to architect, design and develop novel embedded applications based on Intel® Architecture Processors such as Intel® Atom or Intel® Galileo in areas such as Consumer Electronics, Digital Security Surveillance, Medical, Storage and many others.
Eligibility :
The Intel IEC 2014 is open to Residents of India above 18 years of age.
An individual or participants consisting of 1-3 individuals can take part in the Intel IEC 2014.
Rules & Regulations :
Intel is conducting the Intel India Embedded Challenge Contest 2014 (“Intel IEC 2014” or “the Contest”) for participants to architect, design and develop embedded applications in various fields, based on Intel® Architecture Processors such as Intel® Atom or Intel® Galileo.
Categories Themes :
The Intel IEC 2014 has two categories :
** Student Category
** Professional Category
The themes for submission of the project are :
** Internet of Things Devices and Intelligent Systems
** Smart Solutions for Social Cause
** Wearable Computing
Participants are required submit applications based on Intel® Architecture Processors such as Intel® Atom or Intel® Galileo in the above categories.
Intel IEC 2014 Details :
** Participants should be residents of India and should be over 18 years of age.
** Participation in the Intel IEC 2014 will be construed as acceptance of the terms and conditions and other details in respect of the Intel IEC 2014 that may be periodically uploaded and or updated on the website.
** Participants may participate individually or may form teams consisting of up to three (3) persons. However, participants cannot participate in more than one team.
** Participants should ensure that they adhere to the timelines that are specified on the website provided.
** Participants are responsible for ensuring that they are aware of any updates that may be periodically uploaded by Intel.
** Participants may submit only one application.
The Contest will be conducted in three phases :
Phase 1 :
** Participants should register on the website and upload abstracts of the applications as per the timelines that are specified in the website.
** The Evaluation Committee formed by Intel will evaluate and shortlist applications for Phase-2
Phase 2 :
Shortlisted participants will be required to submit complete proposals of the short listed abstracts.
Phase 3 :
** Participants shortlisted will have to develop prototypes based on Intel® Architecture Processors such as Intel® Atom or Intel® Galileo.
** Participants will have to submit prototypes as may be applicable, for final evaluation by the Evaluation Committee.
** The grand prize winner of the Intel IEC 2014 will have to further develop the prototype or proof of concept, as per mutually agreed milestones.
** Applications which are incomplete, offensive, unsuitable for use and/or violative of any statutory or regulatory provisions are liable to be rejected at the sole and absolute discretion of Intel and or the Evaluation Committee.
** Applications must be submitted in the prescribed format and template.
** Intel may designate mentors to assist shortlisted participants (Student Category). The mode of communication between the mentors and participants will be determined on the basis of mutual understanding and could be either via emails or phone calls.
** Intel may request Technology Entrepreneurship Promotion Program (TEPP) and Technology Incubation and Development of Entrepreneurship (TIDE) to consider giving technology incubation support to shortlisted teams. However, any such technology incubation support will be at the sole discretion of TEPP and TIDE.
** Intel may extend mentoring support to the winner for further development of the winning application.
** Intel may sponsor the travel and accommodation of participants shortlisted for final evaluation, who will have to travel to venue. Details of the same will be communicated to the shortlisted participants.
** The decision of Intel and / or the Evaluation Committee will be final and binding on the participants.
Prizes :
Intel Innovation Grand Prize : Two Prizes of Rs.500000/-* (Rupees Five Lakhs Only) each cutting across the 3 themes of Intel IEC 2014, One Grand Prize in student category and one grand prize in Professional category The award will be paid in two installments (Rs. 250000/- (Rupees Two Lakhs Fifty Thousand Only) first installment and Rs. 250000/- (Rupees Two Lakhs Fifty Thousand Only) second installment) based on milestones mutually agreed between award winners and Intel for further development of the prototype
** Best Internet of Things (IoT) or Intelligent Device – One Prize of Rs. 100000 (Rs. One Lakh only)
** Best Smart Solution for Social Cause Award – One Prize of Rs. 100000 (Rs. One Lakh only)
** Best Wearable Technology Award – One Prize of Rs. 100000 (Rs. One Lakh only)
** Jury Popular Choice award – One Prize of Rs. 100000 (One Lakh only) cutting across the 3 themes of Intel IEC 2014
** Woman Innovator of the Year : Rs.100000/- (One Lakh only) cutting across the 3 themes of Intel IEC 2014
** Medals and Certificates from Intel for all finalists
** Direct entry for some of the winning applications to participate in the other innovations programs conducted by Intel or other partner programs
** The prize money payment will be made in the name of the winning Participant. In the event the winner is a team, the prize money payment will be made equally to all members of the team. Participants are expected to do necessary paper work for disbursement of the cash prize.
** Intel may refuse to give prizes or may recover all prizes awarded to the winners in the Contest if any fraud, dishonesty or non-entitlement to participate in the Contest, come to light.
** All prizes are subject to applicable taxes as per the Government of India norms.
Terms & Conditions :
** “Intellectual Property” shall mean any and all intellectual property rights, including without limitation all of the following and all rights in, arising out of, or associated therewith : (i) procedures, registered designs, registered databases, inventions, discoveries, and all United States and foreign patent applications, patents issued or issuable thereon; (ii) works of authorship, copyrights and other rights in works of authorship; (iii) mask works, and (iv) know-how, show-how and trade secrets, all of the preceding on a worldwide basis, but excluding trademarks, trade names, or other forms of corporate or product identification.
** Intel Intellectual Property shall mean all Intellectual Property conceived or reduced to practice by Intel, with no involvement or contribution by Participants, as to its conception or reduction to practice. Intel Intellectual Property shall remain the sole and exclusive property of Intel, and Participants shall have no right, title or claim to such Intel Intellectual Property.
** Participant Background Intellectual Property shall mean (i) any pre-existing Intellectual Property owned or controlled by Participants prior to participation in the Intel IEC 2014; or (ii) developed, conceived, obtained or acquired by Participants independently of the Intel IEC 2014. Participant Intellectual Property shall remain the sole and exclusive property of Participants subject to the license rights granted to Intel hereunder.
** Newly Developed IP shall mean any Intellectual Property, conceived or developed and any improvements thereon (including any Prototype), developed in the course of participating in the Contest.
** Software shall mean the computer programming code/Object Code/Source Code that may be used in any application submitted in the Contest.
** The Parties agree that other than Newly Developed IP related to any microprocessors (including, without limitation, coprocessors and embedded controllers), associated core logic device (including without limitation chipsets), flash memory and / or any firmware associated with the above, or semiconductor process and manufacturing technology, whether developed solely by Participants or jointly by Participants with Intel, shall be solely owned by Intel (hereinafter “Intel Newly Developed IP”), all other Newly Developed IP shall be owned by the Participant (hereinafter Participant Newly Developed IP”).
** At any time or from time to time on and after the Contest, Participants shall, at the request of Intel, promptly : (a) deliver to Intel such records, data, instruments of transfer or other documents consistent with this Agreement, (b) execute, and deliver or cause to be delivered, all such assignments or further instruments of transfer or license, and (c) take or cause to be taken all such other actions, as Intel may reasonably deem necessary or desirable in order to carry out any assignment hereunder or perfect any rights in such Intel Newly Developed IP, so as to enable Intel to obtain the full benefits of this Agreement and the transactions contemplated hereby. Participants further agree that their obligation hereunder, shall continue after the conclusion of the Intel IEC 2014. The Parties further agree that in the event that Participants are required to perform any action as specified hereinabove, the costs in respect of the same will be borne by Intel.
