The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage five research fellows [02-Senior Research Fellows (SRFs) and 03-Junior Research Fellows (JRFs)] (Indian National only) for a period of six years for its research project titled “Tiger re-introduction and recovery programme in Panna Tiger Reserve and the landscape complex, Madhya Pradesh : Phase-II”. Applications for the above advertised positions are invited and only short listed candidates will be called for the interview which is likely to be held during the second week of June 2014.

1 Project Title, details of position and duration : Tiger re-introduction and recovery programme in Panna Tiger Reserve and the landscape complex, Madhya Pradesh: Phase-II.
Name of the post : Senior Research Fellow

Essential Qualification : Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences/Biological Sciences/Veterinary Science/Social Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University and at least 2 years research experience after Post-Graduation.
Desirable Qualification : Prior experiences in
(a) Radio-tracking of wild animals;
(b) capture-recapture sampling involving camera traps;
(c) Occupancy sampling;
(d) socio-economic surveys;
(e) Spatial analysis using Remote Sensing and GIS tools.
Description of Work :
SRF-1: Study movement pattern and behaviour of tigers, both resident ones in the reserve and dispersing ones in the landscape; Provide technical support for tracking team; Develop landscape conservation plan for the area in the meta-population context; Coordinate and report project activities in the field.
SRF-2: Develop spatial database for the landscape and undertake spatial analysis of system dynamics including water resources and services; Map critical wildlife habitat and vulnerability; Socio-economic surveys.
The Senior Research Fellows are expected to be highly motivated and have the ability to work in harsh environment on dispersing tigers in the landscape, involving field sampling and satellite/GSM telemetry technologies. Liaison with Forest Officials managing different landscape units on tiger movement and threat potentials. Provide support in data collection, analyses and report preparation on periodic basis on the description above and on the other emerging needs.

Essential Qualification : Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/Botany/Zoology/Forestry/Life Science/Agriculture/ Environmental Sciences/Biological Sciences/Veterinary Science/Social Sciences with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University.
Desirable Qualification : Interest and/or experience in
(a) distance sampling for prey estimation;
(b) Occupancy sampling;
(c) study of animal behaviour including feeding habits;
(c) capture-recapture sampling involving camera traps;
(d) vegetation science;
(e) socio-economic surveys;
(e) habitat evaluation and monitoring.
Description of Work :
JRF 1: Vegetation sampling and mapping for the areas; Quantification of resources availability and quality; Monitoring of vegetation responses in the relocated village sites over spatial and temporal scales;
JRF 2: Deployment of camera traps and undertake capture-recapture sampling across seasons; Occupancy and abundance sampling of co-predators and other related species; Faecal analyses for food habit studies and provide inputs in genetic and hormone analyses;
JRF 3: Line transect sampling in multiple spatial and temporal scales; Prey-predator relationship in terms of behavioural responses; Study human-wildlife interface issues including livestock grazing, resource dependency and disease risk.
The junior Research Fellows are expected to be highly motivated and have the ability to work in harsh environment, involving various field and analytical protocols. Provide support in data collection, analyses and report preparation on periodic basis on the description above and on the other emerging needs.

Age : Age of the candidate shall not be more than 28 years for the advertised position of JRF and 32 years for SRF as on Wednesday, 23rd April 2014.
