Prof. P.V. Sukhatme Award for Outstanding & Meritorious Research Work in Statistics 2013-14 :
Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) is implementing a Plan Scheme entitled “Awards and Fellowships for Outstanding and Meritorious Research Work in Statistics”. The main objective of this plan scheme is
** To encourage independent and high quality research work in the field of applied/theoretical areas significantly benefiting the Indian official statistical system in the past and/or near future.

Under the scheme, the MOSPI has instituted two National Awards in the names of two renowned statisticians in the country for Outstanding and Meritorious Research Work in Statistics’,
** one in the memory of Prof. P.V. Sukhatme and
** other in honour of Prof. C.R. Rao.

These awards are given in the alternate years. The P.V. Sukhatme award is given to the senior Indian statisticians for their life time contribution. Prof. CR Rao award has been reserved for young statistician for his/her significant work in the field of statistics.

2. Applications/ Nominations for the grant of the Prof. P.V.Sukhatme Award for the year 2013-2014 are now invited.

3. Eligibility :
The applicants or statisticians nominated should
i) be an Indian national with no age bar.
ii) have made significant/life time contributions in applied/ theoretical statistics benefiting the Indian official statistical system.
iii) have acquired the degree of Ph.D/D.Sc.

4. Amount of Award :
The P.V. Sukhatme award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs along with a citation and Memento.

The Awardee is entitled to travel expenses (for travel by Air India by economy class) and free boarding and lodging for the travel/tour undertaken to receive the award. Boarding and lodging facilities for the awardee(s) may be arranged by Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. However, in case boarding & lodging facilities are not arranged by MOS&PI, the awardee(s) will be entitled for reimbursement of expenditure on boarding and lodging in accordance with rates/norms applicable to the officer of Joint Secretary level in Govt. of India.

5. Applications/Nominations of the eligible candidates in the prescribed proforma (given below) along with their resume/synopsis highlighting the salient features of the statistical work done by them may be sent so as to reach Additional Director General, Social Statistics Division (SSD), Central Statistics Office, MOSPI, West Block -8, Wing-6, R.K. Puram, New Delhi-110066 latest by 14th March, 2014.
