Ethics Elocution Competition 2014 :
Vigilance Study Circle – Kerala Chapter – proposes to organize as part of its First Anniversary celebrations, the first Annual Ethics Elocution competition 2014 for college students of institutions located in Kerala.
Competition Date :
The Elocution competition will be held on 1st March, 2014.
Venue:
The Venue for the competition will be at Kochi. Details of the venue and program will be separately intimated to the short-listed participants after the initial screening process (first come-first served) as given below.
Eligibility:
The competition is open to all educational institutions situated in Kerala State which organizes graduate courses affiliated to any of the Universities in Kerala.
Note:
The competition is open only to Bachelor Degree students in any of the years 1, 2 or 3; or any semester from 1 to 8.
Competition Language:
The competition will be conducted in both Malayalam and English separately and each College can nominate (only) one student each for the English competition and the Malayalam competition.
Note:
One institution can nominate only two students in toto.
Application Procedure:
Applications have to be submitted only ONLINE to the following email addresses: cvo@factltd.com and vigilancestudycirclekerala@gmail.com
Application Format:
The format of the application is attached herewith. It will have to be prepared on the College Letterhead and should necessarily contain the seal and signature of the Principal/Head/Authorized Signatory of the Institution and Photo (in jpg.) of the nominated student in the space provided in the Proforma.
The scanned copy of the filled up application form should be attached and sent to the above email address. Applications will not be accepted in any other mode.
Last Date :
The last date for submission of application is 20th February, 2014 by 4.00 pm.
The competition is open on first come first served basis to the first 40 applicants each in English and Malayalam. The numbers are thus limited due to time and space constraints. Therefore, the applicants/ applying institutions are encouraged to submit their applications at the earliest.
The Vigilance Study Circle will not be in a position to reimburse travel or any other expenses to the participants for the competition. However, the winners (as given below) would be reimbursed the cost of 2nd Class Train fare (subject to producing the ticket) from the location where the winner’s institution is located up to the venue of the first anniversary function of Vigilance Study Circle – Kerala Chapter, tentatively fixed for Trivandrum. Details will be informed later to the winners individually.
Competition Subject:
The subject for the competition would be from the area of Ethics, Anti- Corruption and Vigilance in public institutions. The participants are encouraged to read up and be familiar with the subject and its different aspects before they come. The exact topic for the elocution would be given half an hour before the competition to the participants. Thus the speech will have to be extempore without support of pre-prepared notes or similar support. The time permitted to each participant will be 3 minutes plus one minute extra allowance. The sequence for the speakers will be decided by lots taken at the venue. No pre-prepared notes will be allowed into the venue.
Mobile phones will not be allowed at the venue during the competition period. During the half hour preparation time, the participants can prepare their own points or short prompts, for assistance during the speech; such as cues or palm cards. However, reading out from the notes will lead to disqualification, and use of cues or palm cards should be unobtrusive and not disturbing the engagement of the audience. Judges will be looking for knowledge of the subject matter, sincerity in the presentation of material, skilful development of the theme and the effective use of plain and simple language. Originality is encouraged and expected.
Judging Criteria:
The participants will be judged on their knowledge in the area (40%); their command over the language and oratorical and presentation skills (40%); and personality and sincerity and attitude (20%). Under the presentation skills the judges will be looking at your approach/departure; appearance; poise/self-confidence; voice projection/inflection; diction/enunciation; introduction/closing; major points/facts; illustrations/anecdotes; facial expressions; gestures; eye contact; enthusiasm; persuasiveness; originality; ideas clearly presented; worthwhile message conveyed. Participants should take care not to offend sentiments, political leanings etc. during their speeches.
Decision of the Judges shall be final and binding on the participants. Any form of canvassing or influencing the organizers or judges would be treated as reason for summary disqualification. The participants should be prepared to reach the venue at Kochi by 10 am and stay at the venue till 5 pm on the day of the competition. The winners will be personally intimated after the evaluation process and the results published in the media.
Prizes:
The winners in each of the English and Malayalam elocution would be given the following prizes :
1st Prize Rs.10,000 and Certificate/Trophy
2nd Prize Rs.5,000 and Certificate
3rd Prize Rs.3,000 and Certificate
Two Consolation Prizes of Rs.1,000 each and certificates.
