I. Project Oriented Chemical Education (POCE): As part of its Science Outreach Programme, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research has initiated a new programme, Project Oriented Chemical Education (POCE), for students studying in B. Sc first year (PCM) to explore their potentials, to stimulate genuine interest in science and infuse creativity and scientific temper amongst undergraduate students. Selected students will be given an opportunity to involve in programmes such as lectures, laboratory projects and research. The programme will be conducted during summer vacation for a period of 6 to 8 weeks. Students selected are expected to work at the Centre for three consecutive summers and successful candidates will receive Diploma in Chemistry from the Centre. Whenever possible, students will be allowed to work in the Centre during mid-semester vacations as well. Specialization in advanced materials will be possible during the last year. Those who complete the POCE programme with outstanding performance will be eligible for admission to the MS-PhD programme in the Centre subject to a satisfactory performance in the interview.
Eligibility: Students presently studying in 1st year of three year B.Sc programme only (preferably with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, (PCM) combination).
Fellowship: The total number of Fellowships offered will be upto 10. A scholarship of Rs. 6000/- per month will be provided.

II. Project Oriented Biological Education (POBE) : As part of its Science Outreach Programme, in 2006 the Centre initiated a new program in biology for undergraduate students from other institutions. Selected students are exposed to the concepts and methodologies driving integrative research in biology today, through a combination of lectures, laboratory projects and research. The programme will be conducted during the summer vacation for a period of 6 to 8 weeks. Students selected are expected to work at the Centre for three consecutive summers and successful candidates will receive Diploma in Biology from the Centre. Whenever possible, students will be allowed to work in the Centre during mid-semester vacations as well. Specialization in a more focused area of research will be possible during the second and third years. Those who complete the POBE programme with outstanding performance will be eligible for admission to the MS-PhD programme of the Centre subject to a satisfactory performance in the interview.
Eligibility: Students presently studying in 1st year of three year B.Sc programme only (in any science stream) are eligible to apply.
Fellowships: The total number of Fellowships offered will be upto 10. A scholarship of Rs. 6000/- per month will be provided.

Announcement of selected candidates:
i) Only selected candidates will be intimated by first week of April – 2014 and the list will also be available on the JNCASR web site. Further enquiries or correspondence will not be entertained.
ii) The candidates have to indicate their acceptance within two weeks or else it will be presumed that they are not interested in joining the programme.

  3. Can a first year BSC Mathematics student apply for the program poce? At present we don’t have the subject chemistry to study.
