STRUCTURE & SYLLABUS FOR ENTRANCE TEST-JUNIOR DRAFTSMAN (JDM) IN THE DEPARTMENT OF WATER SUPPLY & SANITATION, PUNJAB
Important Instructions:
** Written test will be of 180 minutes duration and shall contain 180 objective type questions (Mutiple choice questions).
** All the questions shall be common to all.
** There shall be negative marking. 1/4th marks shall be deducted for the wrong answer.
Structure of the test:
1 General Studies : 20 Questions
2 Mental Ability : 20 Questions
3 Basic Computer applications : 20 Questions
4 English : 20 Questions
5 Technical Section : 100 Questions
Explanations:
1 Mental ability shall also include questions related to Mathematics
2 General Studies shall include Current events and questions relating to National and Punjab State on following topics :-
(i) Art & culture (ii) Agriculture (iii) Topography (iv) Geography (v) Civics & Constitution of India (vi) Labour Laws (vii) Right to Information Act and (viii) Right to Service Act.
3 The technical section shall contain ‘Certificate course in Civil Draftsman’ level questions on the following topics:
1 Engineering Drawing:
Drawing Instrument, Lettering, Lines and Conventional Signs of Materials, Dimensioning, Sketching, Geometrical Constructions, Conic Sections, Scales, Projection, Isometric Projection, Oblique Projection, Perspective View.
2 Building Material: Bricks, Stone, Lime, Cement, Timber, Sand, Surkhi and Cinder.
3 Building Construction: Introduction, Brick Masonry, Stone Masonry, Foundation, Damp Proof Course, Floor, Lintels and Arches, Carpentry Joints, Doors, Windows and Ventilators, Roofs, Stairs, Planning of Buildings, Plastering, Pointing, White and Color Washing, Drawing, Tracing and Printing
4 Allied Trade: Electric Wiring, House Wiring, Carpentry, Plumbing Tools, Sanitary Fittings, Sewer Pipe.
5 Surveying: Introduction, Chain Surveying, Plane Table Surveying, Levelling, Other Minor Survey Instruments
6 Road, Railway and Bridge: Roads, Railway, Culverts and Bridge.
7 Irrigation Engineering: Introduction, Water Distribution Work, Cross Drainage Work, Diversion/Storage Head Works.
8 Sanitary and Water Supply Engineering: Introduction, Drains and Sewer, Water Supply
9 Special Construction: Mortar and Concrete, Reinforcement Cement Concrete, Rivet and Riveted Joints, Rolled Steel Section, Beam and Girder
10 Estimating and Costing: Units of Measurement, Main items of a building, Methods of Detailed Building Estimate, Type of Estimate, Rate Analysis, Building Specifications.
11 Other topics: AutoCAD, Entrepreneurship, Workshop calculation and Science.
