CIRC Essay Competition 2014 :
CUTS Institute for Regulation and Competition (CIRC) is organising a national level essay competition for post-graduate students from any discipline of social science. Students who have succesfully completed three years of five year integrated degree programmes are eligible. There is no participation fee.

THEME :
The themes for the competition are ‘Competition Policy & Law’ and ‘Economic Regulation’ in India. The essay should depict/highlight the socio-legal and policy issues, with special reference to India. The participants may choose any one of the following sub-themes for their essay:

ELIGIBILITY :
The following eligibility criteria will be applied to all students submitting an essay:
** The contest is open to post-graduate and research students from recognised universities/institutes.
** The participant must hold an undergraduate degree and currently enrolled in a recognised university/ institute. Students who have successfully completed three years of five year integrated degree programmes are also eligible to participate.
** There shall be only one entry per participant.
** Co-authorship is allowed to the extent of having not more than two authors. Co-authors are subject to the above mentioned eligibility criterion.
** Participants in a joint submission must be from same college/institute.
** Members and Staff of CIRC and other partner institutions are not eligible.

ESSAY FORMAT :
The Essay must be written according to the following format:
** The Essay should be no more than 4000 words, including, headings, sub-headings, footnotes, research references, bibliography, tables, charts and figures, etc.
** The word limit excludes the Synopsis/Abstract, which should be no more than 250 words.
** It should be written in English (UK).
** It must be typed in Microsoft Word with Times New Roman, Font size 12, 1.5 linear spacing, on A4 size paper with 2.56 cm margin on each side.
** Footnotes should not include discursive analysis. Endnotes must not be used. Footnotes must be typed in Microsoft Word with Times New Roman, Font size 10 with no linear spacing. All

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE :
Each essay submission shall be made as follows:
** It must include two cover pages. The first cover page should include the paper’s title, name of the participant(s), name of the college/institution, year of study, mail/email address and phone number. The second page should include only the title of the essay and abstract.
** All essays must be submitted through electronic copies in ‘.docx’ format to essay2014[at]circ.in, along with scanned copy of verification form and declaration of authorship form (in ‘.pdf’ format), on or before 15th March, 2014.
** Verification Form and Declaration of Authorship can also be sent by post/courier at Essay Competition 2014, C/O: CUTS Institute for Regulation & Competition, R-75, I Floor, Block-R, Greater Kailash-1, New Delhi- 110 048, on or before 15th March, 2014. However, any essay submission for which verification form and declaration of authorship are not received on or before 15th March 2014, stands rejected.
** Plagiarism/improper or missing citation, whether advertent or inadvertent, can lead to the disqualification of the entry. Winner of the competition may be disqualified retrospectively in the event plagiarism is detected after declaration of the results, or if the author(s) in question published its paper before or after the competition without the prior approval of the organisers.

NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS & PRIZES :
The top 3 entries in each category, i.e. category A and B, will receive the following awards:
First Prize: Certificate of commendation and cash prize of Rs. 20,000/- (each).
Second Prize: Certificate of commendation and cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- (each).
Third Prize: Certificate of commendation and cash prize of Rs. 5,000/- (each).

Apart from the abovementioned awards, certain other selected essays entries may receive certificate of commendation. The certificates and prize distribution will be done in a specially organised event at New Delhi. The selected essays shall be published by CIRC in an appropriate format.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS :
CIRC reserves the right to amend, modify, change or repeal any of the Competition Rules at any point of time without notice to participants or any other parties. Further, CIRC reserves the right to take any decision on any matter not mentioned in the Competition Rules. Any such decision taken by CIRC shall be final and binding upon all parties. The Copyright in the essays awarded shall vest with CIRC and may reproduce them in any appropriate format, with due credit to the authors.
