Training Programme on Neonatal Care at Department of Neonatology, IPGMER- SSKM Hospital :
Training outside state:
** Training on sick newborn care for doctor and nurses working at level II SNCU in NIPI focused state
** Total 18doctors and 54 nursing personnel have been trained till date

Training within state :
Training on sick newborn care for doctor and nurses working at level II sncu in West Bengal under RCH II This department is carrying out the responsibility of training nursing personnel and doctors working in different SNCUs on newborn care since 2005. Recently a special cell has been formed in this department by govt of west Bengal to act as a nodal centre for training and evaluation of SNCU already existing and newly developing in different parts of west Bengal.

Admission criteria : registered nurse with minimum of one year experience as a staff nurse

Number of seats : 10-20

Course description : to prepare GNM or BSc nurses for all 3 levels of neonatal care. The clinical classes are distributed in labor room, postnatal ward, NICU, neonatal surgery ICU, community service and follow service. Theory topics include clinical teaching elementary research and statistics other than clinical nursing.
** A diploma will be awarded upon completion of the study programme and after passing examination.
** At present the second batch is running.

CERTIFICATE COURSE IN NEONATAL TRAINING FOR DOCTORS :
A 6 months certificate course on neonatal training for SNCU for the medical officer in districts is running by this department under the department of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal and IPGMER.

On-Going Trainings of Various Modalities :
** 2/3 weeks for SNCU : Medical officer & Nurses
** 1 month for SNCU Nurses
** 2 month for SNCU Nurses
** Arrangements for refresher trainings
** There will soon be arrangement of orientation session for other support staff (GDA, cleaning staff, Lab Technician, DE Operators etc) from /to be deployed at the SNCUs can also be arranged at IPGMER-Neonatology Unit
** The medical officers and nurses+ identified Newborn Aides at a facility with planned SNSU in the state will be trained hands-on at the nearby functional SNCU (same/different district) by the trained staff there, for 3 days, under the guidance of IPGMER/SSKM-neonatology unit
