As the world leader in Oral Care, Colgate has always been at the forefront of initiatives that improve the oral health condition. With an objective to increase Oral Care awareness, Colgate-Palmolive spearheaded Oral Health Month (OHM), an annual initiative dedicated to spreading oral health and hygiene awareness throughout the world. Since its inception in 1998, the initiative has successfully reached out to millions of people across countries worldwide.
A survey, recently conducted by IMRB International for Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited reveals the following :
** A mere 2.5% Indians visit a dentist at least once a year compared to a global average of 48%
** 67% Indians have never considered a dental check-up
** 30% of the Indian population consults a dentist only if they believe they have a dental problem
** Out of those that do finally seek treatment for their dental problems, 1 in 3 have to get tooth extractions as generally it is too late to do anything else
In India, Colgate-Palmolive in partnership with Indian Dental Association (IDA) has been conducting Oral Health Month since 2004 covering a wide spectrum of activities designed to spread oral health awareness and good oral hygiene practices.
Oral Health Month has grown phenomenally in the past ten years and has emerged as a leading campaign for promoting oral health awareness in India. Owing to its success, since 2009 Colgate-Palmolive earmarked two months instead of the traditional one month, dedicated to spreading the message of oral health and hygiene. In 2012, October and November, the mission of this program was ‘Mission Zero Cavity’. Taking this initiative forward, in its tenth year in 2013, Oral Health Month will focus on the mission to achieve a Healthy Mouth.
In the year 2012, Oral Health month was spread across 1116 towns with a total of 25,000 dentists participating in the program. The two-month long oral care awareness drive covered in-clinic free dental check-ups, school contact program, free dental check-ups in mobile dental vans, retailers outreach program and many more such activities to engage 3.7 million consumers. As in the past, in 2013 too, the campaign will see intensive efforts to spread awareness regarding the need for good oral hygiene.

Professionals from the dental fraternity form an integral part of the Oral Health Month. Colgate partners with the largest recognized body of dental professionals in India – the Indian Dental Association (IDA) – to offer dental check-ups, free of cost. This partnership has been in existence since the introduction of the Oral Health Month in 2004.
Check-ups in Dental Colleges :
Last year, this program witnessed a partnership with 124 dental colleges and the participation of more than 2000 young dental professionals offering check-ups, free of cost. Moreover, these dental check-ups were also offered at schools and underprivileged regions. Colgate endeavors to continue the program this year as well.
Mobile Vans :
In its continued commitment to serve the society by creating awareness for good oral hygiene, in 2008, Colgate introduced mobile dental vans in 6 cities across the country to enable free dental check-ups in underprivileged areas, which have limited access to quality dental care. In addition to conducting free check-ups, the dentists also educated children and their families about good oral hygiene practices.
In 2012, Colgate organized mobile dental vans and conducted 178,255 check-ups across 39 towns and cities across India. The success of this program has encouraged Colgate to continue with this practice in underprivileged areas, spreading the importance of good oral hygiene.
Oral Health Month, in 2012, achieved more than 36,80,000 contacts across the country. From 25000 dentists and 1,116 towns last year, Colgate aims to expand the reach and network of the OHM to 30,000 dentists and 1,200 towns this year.

To avail the free dental checkup, you have two options :
Option 1 :
SMS your pin-code to 088662 88662. You will receive a reply with details of at least 2 dentists in or around your pin code, if available. For each SMS only one person is entitled for a free dental checkup. If there is no dentist offering the free check-ups in or around your pin code area then you will receive a regret SMS.
Option 2 :
Give a missed call on 88662 8862. Please note that if you are calling from outside the Gujarat circle it is mandatory that you prefix a zero before the number. You will then receive a call back where the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) will direct you to enter your pincode. If you are calling from a mobile phone, you will receive an SMS with details of atleast 2 dentists in or around pincode provided by you, if available. If there is no dentist offering the free check-ups in or around your pin code area then you will receive a regret SMS. If you are calling from a landline, then the contact number of at least 2 dentists in or around pincode provided by you will be read out on the call. If there is no dentist offering the free check-ups in or around your pin code area then you will be told so on the call.

** Please contact the dentist for appointment to avail the free dental check-up. Colgate is not responsible for getting the appointment with the Dentists.
** For any assistance / clarification a toll-free number – 1800225599 will be available to you in case of any queries or concerns. The number will be available from 8 :30am-4:30pm, Monday to Friday during the months of October 2013 and November 2013.
** Please note that Colgate is facilitating in providing a free dental checkup only, provided a Dentist participating in OHM program is available in the vicinity of your pin code area.
** Colgate assumes no responsibility for the services of the dentists during free dental checkup. Colgate shall not be liable for any cost or consequences for any additional treatment / procedure availed by any person on his / her own volition or on advice of the Dentists. Colgate does not subscribe to any opinion / suggestion given by the participating Dentists is their Independent professional capacity.
** Colgate is not liable for any lack of or deficiency in service provided by the Dentists.
** This is a limited period offer and can be availed only between October 1st 2013 and November 30th 2013.
** Colgate reserves the right to extend, curtail or alter the offer in its sole discretion.
