GAIL Scholarship Scheme :
The scheme will be called ‘GAIL Scholarship Scheme for meritorious students’ to be operated under the provisions of GAIL Charitable and Education Trust and has been initiated as part of GAIL’s commitment under Corporate Social Responsibility in the thrust area of Educational Aid.
Applicability:
The Scheme will be applicable to :-
(a) School students of primary and secondary schools; and
(b) For Professional Courses as defined in the Scheme subsequently
Objectives :
The objective of the scheme is :-
School Level :
To encourage meritorious school students who belong to economically deprived section of the society
Professional Courses level :
To encourage top performers in the entrance examinations of professional courses. The scholarship shall reemphasize GAIL’s role as a responsible corporate citizen and to facilitate meritorious students to pursue their studies.
Definitions :
For the purposes of this Scheme, unless the context otherwise requires;
(a) ‘Meritorious’ means :-
(i) School level :-
‘The top scoring students in each category of SC/ST, OBC, General and Girl students in the stipulated number (as defined in para 9 of the scheme) in each class from classes VII to X, XI to XII, fulfilling the merit cum means criteria (as per 4 b I).
(ii) Professional Courses :-
‘The top three Rank holders in each of the discipline of professional courses of Engineering, Medical, Management and CA, fulfilling the merit cum means criteria( as per 4 b II).’
(b) ‘Economically deprived’ means :-
(i) School level :
“The students, whose family income from all sources is less than Rs. 50,000 p.a., shall be considered as belonging to economically deprived section. This will be on the basis of the “Income Certificate” issued to the parent of the beneficiary student, by the following authorities:-
i. District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Collector/Dy. Commissioner/ Additional Deputy Commissioner/ Deputy Collector/ Ist Class Stipendiary Magistrate/ City Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Taluka Magistrate/ Executive Magistrate/ Extra Assistant Commissioner
ii. Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/Presidency Magistrate
iii. Revenue Officers not below the rank of Tehsildar
iv. Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the student and/or his family normally reside(s)
v. Administrator/Secretary to Administrator/Development Officer (Lakhsdweep)
Professional courses level :
‘The students whose family income from all sources is less than Rs. 2,00,000 p.a., shall be considered as belonging to economically deprived section. This will be on the basis of the “Income Certificate” issued to the parent of the beneficiary student, by the following authorities :-
i. District Magistrate/Additional District Magistrate/Collector/Dy. Commissioner/ Additional Deputy Commissioner/ Deputy Collector/ Ist Class Stipendiary Magistrate/ City Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Taluka Magistrate/ Executive Magistrate/ Extra Assistant Commissioner
ii. Chief Presidency Magistrate/Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate/Presidency Magistrate

Sources of Fund :
The Scholarships at school level and for professional courses would be provisioned and funded by the GAIL Charitable and Education Trust.
Commencement :
The scheme shall come into force from the Academic Session 2008-2009. Scholarship shall be granted based on the performance of the students in the examination conducted in the academic session 2007-2008 at School Level and for admissions into academic session 2008-09 onwards for professional courses
Scholarship amount per student :

No. of Scholarships :
The number of scholarships to be awarded at different levels in each class from Class VIII to Class XII based on the performance at previous grade examination respectively.
Total Number of School students :
750 (Seven Hundred Fifty )school students from economically deprived section shall be granted this scholarship.
Regulation of Scholarship :
Scholarship shall be granted to top scoring students studying in Class III/IX/X/XI/XII based on their performance in the previous grade and meeting the means criteria in the categories listed at para 9. In other words, based on the performance in Class VII, scholarship shall be granted to the students for studying in Class VIII.
Special Conditions :
A. The income ceiling shall be applicable to all categories of students. However, in case of non-availability of SC/ST/OBC/Girl students within the stipulated income ceiling, the income ceiling can be relaxed either by OIC of the Work Centre and/or GM(CSR) in respect of schools/institutions Delhi/National Capital Region (NCR).
B. If the top scoring girl student belongs to SC/ST/OBC category, her candidature shall be considered under SC/ST/OBC quota only. In such cases the second/next top scoring girl shall be awarded the scholarship from ‘girl’ quota.
C. In the event of non-availability of candidate/student in SC/ST/Girl/OBC category orthe candidate falls short of the number of scholarship, the same can be granted to General category students.
D. Scholarship shall be disbursed to the eligible students subject to the condition that they produce requisite caste certificate and income certificate issued by the appropriate authority
E. Such disbursement shall be done ceremonially once on annual basis, in presence of GAIL representative, through Headmaster/Principal of the school/institute, subject to fulfillment of other conditions and criteria.
F. The scholarships shall be disbursed annually in the month of July/August of each year.
Scholarship for professional courses :
a.) Basis of identification of Students :
Scholarships will be awarded to such students who qualify for admissions in professional courses. The students will be identified for scholarship on the basis of published merit list in the entrance examination for admission in the respective institutes.
The scholarship for professional courses of Engineering, Medical, Management, and CA would be for the top three rank holders in each of the discipline, fulfilling means criteria
Procedure for Award of Scholarships for professional courses :-
Selection of Scholars :
1. Corporate CSR department will obtain the published merit list of the students from the institutes after declaration of results of the entrance examination in each of the disciplines in the month of June/July from the respective institutes.
2. The students whose family income from all sources is less than Rs. 2,00,000 p.a., shall be considered as belonging to economically deprived section. This will be on the basis of the “Income Certificate” by the issuing authority as detailed in the definition of ‘economic deprived student’
Procedure :
1. Forwarding of application proforma of top three students in merit list by the professional institutes. In case top three students are not identified as per the merit cum means criteria, applications to next top three students would be forwarded by the professional institutes who fulfill the merit cum means criteria.
2. Screening of applications received and selection of top three students meeting the criteria
3. Recommendation of the names of Scholarship Awardees to GAIL Charitable and Education Trust
4. Ceremonially handing over of Scholarship to 12 students at Corporate Office, New Delhi in the presence of TMT and media. The travel and stay expenses of the students will be borne by GAIL.
General :
GAIL Charitable and Education Trust reserves the right to withdraw the Scheme without assigning any reason whatsoever either to the students or to the Schools/ Institutions. During the period, GAIL Charitable and Education Trust may reduce the quantum of scholarship without assigning any reason.
For any clarification relating to this Scheme, decision of GAIL Charitable and Education Trust shall be final and binding.
