Admission to Ph. D. Programme starting from July, 2014 :
Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) programme starting in July 2014. The disciplines and areas in which the programme is proposed to be offered are;
Discipline & Areas :
Computer Science & Engineering : Soft computing
Electronics & Communication Engineering : VLSI
Electrical & Electronics Engineering : Power quality improvement, Distributed generation, Power system stability, Power electronics and Electric drives, Control system, Image processing, Pattern Recognition Biometric, Instrumentation.
Mechanical Engineering : Design & Manufacturing in Mechanical Engineering, Application of soft computing techniques in machining etc., Computational fluid dynamics, turbulence modeling, fluid mechanics.
Civil Engineering : Environmental Engineering , Structural Engineering .
Mathematics : Analysis
Chemistry : Organometallics & Catalysis, Organic material for sensing & electronic application.
Humanities : Nineteenth century literature, Modern and contemporary literature, European literature, Comparative literature, Drama and theatre Studies
Categories of Ph. D. Students :
The Institute shall admit Ph. D students under the following categories:
a) Full Time: Scholars under this category shall work full time for the Ph.D. courses/research. They may receive fellowship/assistantship offered by the Institute or other funding agencies.
b) Sponsored: Recognized R&D organizations, national institutions, other universities, government organizations or industries may sponsor research scholars. They shall be admitted through the normal process, and they shall not be entitled to any fellowship/assistantship from the Institute. They shall work full time for the Ph.D. courses/research.
c) Project Fellow: Scholars working on different research projects at the Institute may be admitted to the Ph. D. programme provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria, subject to the consent of the Principal Investigator of the project.
d) Part Time: Scholars employed in academic institutions/ universities (including NIT Meghalaya)/ R&D organizations may be considered for admission into the Ph. D. programme of the Institute, following the normal admission procedures. They shall fulfill the stipulated requirements for Ph. D. admission.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission into Ph. D. Programme :
Master’s degree in appropriate branch of Engineering/ Science/ Technology/ Management Sciences/ or Master’s degree in the allied subjects with consistently good academic record and a minimum of 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA in the Master’s degree. (Candidates with B.E./ B. Tech. with an aggregate of 80% marks or equivalent GPA with valid GATE score will also be eligible).
Relaxation for SC/ST/PD Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CGPA for SC/ST/PD category applicants.
Selection Procedure :
Eligible candidates will be required to appear for a written test on topics in his/ her discipline. Shortlisted candidates based on performance in the written test will be called for interview for the final selection.
Application Fee : Rs. 500/- (Rs. 250/- for SC/ST) by Demand Draft in favour of NIT Meghalaya payable at Shillong.
