1st ADR Research Paper Writing Competition :
Ist ADR Research paper writing Competition on “International Commercial Arbitration in India : Problems and Prospects” attempts to provide a platform for the law students for expressing their views on various aspects of International Commercial Arbitration and recent developments taking place across the globe and in India which effects the Indian position. The sub themes / topics of the competition ensure to provide global relevance and encourage the participants to analyze and convey their thoughts and probable solutions on the topics.
Topics for Research Paper writing :
1. Challenges for Bilateral Investment Treaties and issues related to investment arbitration
2. Judicial Intervention in Arbitral process : Analysis post BALCO v Kaiser Aluminium judgement
3. Enforcement and Recognition of International Arbitral Awards in India : Issues and Challenges
4. International Arbitration Tribunals in India : Future Opportunities and Challenges
Registration Details :
1.Team Composition – Subject to these rules, the Competition is open to all bonafide students enrolled in any full-time undergraduate and post graduate Law programme of any recognized Law College/ Institution/ University in India. All team member (in case of joint authorship) of a Team should be students of the same College/ Institution/ University only.
2. Registration form (Annexure – 1) and the Declaration of Authority (Annexure – 2) shall be scanned and be send by email on adr AT nirmauni.ac.in along with final paper.
3. Registration fees for the Competition is 300 INR through Demand Draft in Favour of “Institute of Law, Nirma University”, Payable at Ahmedabad.
4. Registration form along with Demand Draft should be sent on or before 25th April, 2014 along with the research paper.
5. Scanned Copy of College / Institute/ University ID Card must also be sent along with the submission.

Participation Requirements :
1. Number of Team Members : Joint Authorship is allowed with a maximum of two authors. However, such co-author has to register separately by paying the requisite registration fee.
2. No individual shall be a member of more than one registered Team. If any individual joins more than one Team, then all Teams of which such individual is a team member shall be disqualified.
3. Participating team is only eligible to write for one topic.
Research Paper Format :
1. The research paper must be submitted in English Language only.
2. The research paper should be typed in Times New Roman, Font Size 12 with line spacing of 1.5
3. The footnotes must be in Times New Roman, Font size 10 and line spacing of 1
4. The citation must be according to Harvard Bluebook 19th Edition.
5. Research Paper should not exceed 5000 words which should also include an abstract of 300 words but excluding the footnotes.
6. Word count is required to be mentioned on the cover page.
7. Only original work is invited and any kind of plagiarism will lead to disqualification.
8. The research paper published elsewhere or selected for publication shall be disqualified.
9. The research paper can be sent in ‘.doc’ or ‘.docx’ format.
Selection Procedure :
1. Research Paper will be judged on the basis of its content, lucidity and originality. The quality of analysis, meticulousness of research, will be considered in its comprehensiveness. Other aspects of quality such as rationality, approach, structure and innovative application will be other parameters on which the jury will evaluate the paper.
2. The entries will be judged by a committee of leading law academicians, jurists, and legal practitioners from across the country. The decision of the committee will be final and no appeal shall be entertained however which regard to the decision of the jury.
Other important conditions :
1. The identity of the author is not allowed to be indicated anywhere in the text. All submissions will be blind reviewed. References to specific individuals, firms, or institution, which might reveal the author’s identity are strongly discouraged and shall be liable to be disqualified.
2. The OC reserves the right to amend, modify, change or repeal any of the Competition Rules at any point of time without notice to any Participating Teams or any other parties.
3. The OC reserves the right to take decisions on any matter not mentioned in the Competition Rules. Any such decision taken by the OC shall be final and binding upon all parties.
4. The OC reserves the right to interpret any of the Competition Rules. Any such interpretation taken shall be final and binding upon all parties. The OC may depart from these Competition Rules in exceptional circumstances at its sole discretion without giving notice to any parties. If there arises any situation that is not contemplated in these Rules, the OC’s decision on this shall be final and binding on all parties.
5. All decision of the OC regarding any aspect of the Competition or in case of any dispute between any parties shall be final and binding upon all the concerned parties.
6. The contestants by entering in the contest give Competition organisers the right to publicise the winning entries without any royalty or compensation.
7. The contestants by entering in the contest agree to indemnify Competition Organisers from and against all claims, suits, and damages based on any claim of copyright infringement or plagiarism or unauthorized use.
8. Competition Organisers will not be responsible for any condition beyond its control that may cause the contest to be interrupted.
Awards : (Total 12 Cash Prizes)
On each topic there would be prizes as mentioned below :
** First Prize – INR 7000
** Second Prize – INR 5000
** Third Prize – INR 3000
** Best paper (of First prize winner) from each topic will be considered for publication in the upcoming journal of Centre for ADR, Institute of Law Nirma University and may be invited to present their paper in a Symposium which will tentatively be organised in the first/second week of May.
** Certificate of merit will be awarded to other 05 papers (apart from the above three Prize) from each topic.
** Participation certificate will be awarded to all the participants.
