Maastricht University High Potential Scholarships :
To further strengthen its position as a leading European university with an international orientation, Maastricht University offers scholarships to talented international students who are from non-European Union countries. These High Potential scholarships cover the full amount of tuition fees, as well as living expenses, insurance and visa costs.

THE SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE FOR SEPTEMBER 2013 INTAKE HAS PASSED. Scholarships for 2014 will open up around December.
Who is eligible?

Applicants must be admissible for a master’s programme or graduate programme for professionals at Maastricht University and must not be older than 35 years at the start of the academic year (1 September). You must be admitted to the programme or programmes of your choice before applying for this scholarship.

Scholarship applicants must have obtained excellent results in their previous studies. This must be shown in the application file by including, for example, grade lists or reference letters. In case of equivalent qualification, preference will be given to applications which show that the applicant is among the top 5%.

Applicants must come from India or another country outside the EU/EEA and meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.
Duration of the High Potential scholarship

The High Potential scholarship is awarded for the duration of the master’s programme (12 to 24 months).
Amount of the High Potential scholarship

Full tuition fee waiver: 12,000 EUR
Living expenses coverage: 825 EUR per month (paid by the Scholarship Office)
Insurance: 500 EUR (paid by the Scholarship Office)
Visa Costs: 600 EUR (paid by the Scholarship Office)

Application and selection :
Students can download the application form here. Applications must be sent to Maastricht University. On the section Application and Selection, you can find information about how to send in the application form. The application deadline differs per faculty. Check the list of deadlines for your faculty.

For the scholarship assessment, the Scholarship Committee takes all elements of the application into account, including the level of previous study programmes, academic excellence, motivation, status of the home institution, the connection with the prior study programme, future career plans and references.

Terms and Conditions of the UM High Potential Scholarship Programme :
1. Aims and objectives of the UM High Potential Scholarship Programme :
Maastricht University aims to further strengthen its position as a leading European University offering high-quality education with an international orientation. To this end, the University implements a proactive recruitment policy for international students, in particular for the Master’s programmes. Within this framework, scholarships are made available by the UM Scholarship Fund in order to encourage talented students from outside the EU/EEA to do a Master’s programme at Maastricht University. One of these scholarships is the UM High Potential Scholarship.

2. Rights and obligations :
2.1. These Rules & Regulations apply to all UM High Potential Scholarship holders.
2.2. Maastricht University accepts no liability for the consequences of illness, accidents, etc., or any other risk that the acceptance of a UM High Potential Scholarship may entail for the scholarship holder.
2.3. The scholarship holder may not be holding another scholarship of, or receive funding from, Maastricht University or another organization that would give any overlapping benefits without Maastricht University’s prior written approval. Failure to notify Maastricht University will lead to termination of the UM High Potential Scholarship.
2.4. Scholarship holders give permission to enter their personal data and study results in a database to be used at Maastricht University’s discretion to provide information to other, related (noncommercial) organizations.
2.5. The scholarship consists of the allowance mentioned in the award letter. Scholarship holders must cover any other costs themselves.

During the scholarship :
Under a residence permit for study, scholarship holders are allowed to work for a maximum of ten hours a week provided that the temporary employer has obtained a work permit for international staff. UM scholarship holders are strongly advised against taking up regular jobs in the Netherlands given the programme’s heavy workload.

Scholarship holders must complete the programme for which they were granted scholarships to the best of their ability. They must be prepared at any time to provide the Scholarship Office with information concerning the progress of their programme, and to cooperate fully in any form of programme evaluation carried out by Maastricht University including attending any meetings organised by the Scholarship Office for scholarship holders.

The scholarship is granted for the programme for which its holder submitted the application.
Requests for a change of study programme under the High Potential Scholarship Programme will only be considered by the University in exceptional cases and must meet the following criteria.
** The request is accompanied by an explanation.
** The requested programme is taught at Maastricht University.
** The request is presented to the Scholarship Committee directly together with a no-objection declaration from the scholarship holders’ study adviser.
** The change in programme does not affect the budget of the High Potential scholarship.
** The requested programme takes place in the same time period as the original programme.
** The application for the change of programme is made not later than one month after the starting date of the original programme.
Maastricht University can terminate the scholarship if the scholarship holder changes programme without the prior written consent of the University or after the University declines the request.

Deferral of scholarships is not possible.

The following scholarships are open for application. Please keep in mind that you need to be admitted to the programme of your choice before you apply for the scholarship (apply at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance). You may apply for up to 4 programmes and all relevant scholarships.
