PRL Junior Research Fellowship Programme July 2014 :
Applications are invited from highly motivated students for the PRL Junior Research Fellowships programme starting in July 2014 in the broad areas of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Solar Physics, Planetary Sciences, Geosciences, Space and Atmospheric Sciences, Experimental Laser Physics, Experimental Molecular Physics and Theoretical Physics.

Minimum Qualifications :
** Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physics, Chemistry, Earth Sciences or related disciplines in science with first class or equivalent at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels.
** Master’s degree award should be on or after August 2012. Those students expecting a Master’s degree by August, 2014 are also eligible to apply.

Fellowship :
The selected candidates will be offered a consolidated amount of ` 16,000/- per month for two years which will be raised to ` 18,000/- in the third year subject to satisfactory academic review.

Age Limit : 25 years as on 31.12.2013 (born on or after 31.12.1988).

Selection Procedure :
1. All the candidates interested in applying to the PRL JRF programme should fill the online application form. This is also applicable to candidates applying through various competitive examinations like JEST/GATE/CSIR-UGC-NET-JRF.
2. Each application will be screened. Shortlisted candidates will be subjected to selection in two stages : a written test, followed by an interview of those who score well in the written test. Candidates with high score in any one of JEST / GATE / UGC-CSIR NET may be invited to directly appear for the interview.
3. Those candidates whose MSc final results are not declared but qualify through the interview will be provisionally admitted, subject to their scoring 60% marks at MSc.

Course Work :
All the students will be required to undergo a two semesters of course work after joining the institute, and only after the successful completion of the course work, students will be allowed to join the research groups.

International Travel Support :
1. Selected JRFs will be paid a fellowship of Rs. 16,000/- per month which will be raised to Rs. 18,000/- per month after two years, subject to a satisfactory academic review.
2. A book grant of Rs. 7,500/- per year will be given for five years to purchase books that are relevant to the research work being carried out by the Research Fellow.
3. Expenses connected with the registration for Ph.D. degree, such as, tuition fees and examination fees will be borne by PRL.
4. Students are offered financial support up to Rs. 1.0/- lakh (Rupees One lakh only) for participating in an international academic meeting during the PhD tenure.

Application Procedure :
** Applications are to be submitted online. Those students with no access to internet may send their request for a hard copy of the application form by 10 March, 2014 (provided they meet minimum qualifications and age limit as mentioned). The request should be made along with a self-addressed envelope (25 cm x 17 cm) superscribed with “PRL JRF 2014”. The request for application form should be addressed to ‘The Head, Academic Services, Physical Research Laboratory, Navrangpura, Ahmedabad – 380 009’. The completed application by post/courier/speed post should reach PRL by 30 March, 2014.
** To apply online, you first need to register and generate a registration number. The registration number and password for resubmission, which should be carefully preserved for future reference.
** If you wish to update your application, or correct errors in a previous submission, you can do so this link. This facility will be available from 15 March, 2014.
** Fill in all the information correctly and “SUBMIT”.
** On successful application, your registration number will be displayed on screen and an e-mail will be sent to you. Note down your Registration Number and keep in a safe place. This would be required for checking the status of your application in future.
** Your Password for resubmission and name would be the reference code that will be generated by the system on successful registration. If certain fields show error while registering, please try to modify the data and avoid using special characters such as . , ` ‘ ( ) / – ” etc. Check all the details before clicking the submit button.
** You may take a print-out of your application after successful submission or save the same as a pdf file by following this link.
