The SCI occupies the Numero Uno position with its large and diversified fleet, operating in nearly all segments of shipping viz. break-bulk services, container services, liquid and dry bulk services, offshore services and passenger services. The company also mans and manages vessels on behalf of various government bodies. The SCI continues to grow through strategic alliances and new business opportunities.
The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. requires Chief Engineer Officers for its shore offices. Applications are invited from suitable candidates for the post of Deputy General Manager/Manager. Reservation will be applicable as per Government of India guidelines.
Upper Age limit :
The upper age limit is 45 years as on 30/09/2013 relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer) category.
Category Eligibility as per date of birth :
General Born on or after 01/10/1968
SC Born on or after 01/10/1963
ST Born on or after 01/10/1963
OBC (non-creamy layer) Born on or after 01/10/1965
Vacancies :
Total 16 vacancies, of which 15 will be for Mumbai/Kolkata and 1 will be for Port Blair of which 4 are reserved for OBC, 2 for SC and 1 for ST category.
Experience :
Mumbai: Minimum sailing experience as Chief Engineer Officer (FG) should be 12 months as on 30/09/2013.
Port Blair: Minimum sailing experience as Chief Engineer Officer (FG/NCV) should be 12 months as on 30/09/2013. Candidates holding Class III COC (NCV) OR Class II COC (NCV) may also apply.
Posting :
The postings are mainly in Mumbai with one posting in Port Blair. However, the selected candidates can be posted/transferred anywhere in India/Abroad.
Accommodation :
Unfurnished accommodation shall be provided based on availability at place of posting.

Selection Process :
The interviews will be held at Mumbai at The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd., Shipping House, 245, Madame Cama Road, Nariman Point, Mumbai – 400021. The shortlisted candidates shall be informed regarding the date of interviews. The candidates are requested to carry the original documents for proof of Date of Birth, proof of qualification, original COC, original CDC, original caste certificate (if applicable) on the day of the interview. Candidates who are found eligible as per above mentioned eligibility criteria would be considered for the selection process.
General Information :
(a) Candidates who do not meet the above mentioned eligibility criteria would not be allowed to appear for the interview.
(b) Candidates have to make their own arrangements to appear for the Personal Interviews. No TA/DA will be admissible by the Corporation.
(c) Indian Nationals only need to apply.
(d) The Company reserves the right to increase/decrease the number of vacancies or cancel the recruitment at any stage.
(e) The Company reserves the right to raise the minimum eligibility standard etc. in order to restrict the number of candidates.
(f) Candidates are advised in their own interest not to furnish any particulars that are false, tampered, fabricated or suppress any information while filing up the application form or during the verification process. In any such case, the candidature/appointment made shall be treated as null/void at any stage in the selection process.

(h) The appointment of selected candidates will be subject to their being declared medically fit by a Doctor approved by the Corporation and verification of their character, antecedents and caste certificates and eligibility conditions.
(i) The selection of candidates for Interviews shall be at the discretion of the Corporation and the decision in this matter will be final and binding.
Furnishing of wrong/false information will lead to disqualification and SCI will not be responsible for any of the consequences of furnishing such wrong/false information. The candidates must satisfy themselves of the suitability for the position to which they are applying. If at any stage during the recruitment and selection process, it is found that the candidates have furnished false or wrong information, their candidature will be rejected. Canvassing in any form during any stage of recruitment process will lead to cancellation of candidature. Court of jurisdiction for any dispute will be at Mumbai.
