Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2014 :
Kailash Manasarovar Yatra (KMY) is known for its religious value, cultural significance, physical beauty and thrilling nature. It is undertaken by hundreds of people every year. Holding significance for the Hindus as the abode of Lord Shiva, it holds religious importance also for the Jains and the Buddhists.

The Yatra is organized by the Ministry of External Affairs every year between June and September. It is open to eligible Indian citizens, holding valid Indian passports, who wish to proceed to Kailash Manasarovar for religious purposes.

The Application form for the KMY-2014 is already available. The last date to apply online is 05 March 2014. The last date to submit printout of an online or printable application is 10 March 2014.

Who is Eligible? :
An Indian citizen, holding a valid Indian passport and aged between 18 and 70 years as on 01 January 2014, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27 or less, who is physically fit and medically healthy, is eligible for undertaking the Yatra for religious purpose.

An applicant should not suffer from medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, epilepsy, etc. The selected applicant is required to undergo and qualify comprehensive medical examinations conducted by the Delhi Heart and Lung Institute (DHLI) and the ITBP Base Hospital in New Delhi.

Foreigners :
Those who hold foreign ationalities are not eligible to apply for the Yatra. PIO and OCI card holders are, thus, ineligible.

Fees and Estimated Expenditure :
No refunds :
The medical charges are non-refundable even if the applicant is not able to undertake the Yatra eventually due to disqualification on medical grounds or otherwise.

Applicants found medically unfit will not be allowed to proceed on the Yatra, and will forfeit the non-refundable deposit and other payments made to KMVN.

Deposit to Confirm Participation :
Each selected applicant will be required to deposit a non-refundable amount of Rs.5,000/- through a Bank Demand Draft in favour of “Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited”, payable in Delhi, by specified deadline to confirm participation in the Yatra.

Selection Process :
Draw through a fair computerized system : Yatris will be selected and assigned to different batches by the Ministry of External Affairs through a fair computer-generated random gender-balanced selection process. A batch, once allocated to a Yatri through the computerized process, will not normally be changed.

A spouse, subject to fulfilling prescribed conditions to qualify for the Yatra, will automatically be selected for the same batch, provided he/she has submitted his/her application for the Yatra and this fact is clearly indicated in the relevant column of the application form.

Confirmation of Participation :
Each selected applicant will be required to deposit a non-refundable amount of Rs.5,000/- through a Bank Demand Draft in favour of “Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited”, payable in Delhi, by specified deadline to confirm participation in the Yatra.

Medical Tests in Delhi :
Selected Yatris are required to assemble in New Delhi 3-4 days in advance of the Yatra to undergo thorough medical tests at the Delhi Heart and Lung Institute and the ITBP Base Hospital. Parameters of medical tests are decided by the ITBP Base Hospital, keeping the requirements of the Yatra in mind. Only those applicants who pass these tests are allowed to proceed on the Yatra.

Additional Medical Tests at Gunji :
Reactions to altitude trekking – Medical tests to ascertain reactions to altitude trekking will be conducted by ITBP at Gunji after about 5 days of the Yatra at a height of around 3500 metres. A Yatri who is found medically unfit at Gunji will not be permitted to continue the Yatra any further.

Conditions :
Applicants may carefully note the following conditions before applying :
** Applicants should possess an ordinary Indian passport valid for at least six months as on 01 September 2014.
** It is the individual’s responsibility to ensure that application contains accurate information and that it is complete in every respect including date of birth.
** Incomplete applications will be rejected.
** Incorrect or false information in the application form will be ground for disqualification at any stage, including during the Yatra. All payments made to KMVN and others will, thus, be forfeited.
** After receiving the communication announcing the preliminary selection, the selected applicant is required to confirm in writing to the Ministry of External Affairs that he/she can travel before the stated deadline. Otherwise, it will be presumed that the selected Yatri cannot travel, and he/she will be replaced from the stand-by list.
** Failure to pass the medical examinations in Delhi and Gunji will be ground for disqualification. Medical certificates issued by any source other than DHLI and ITBP in Delhi and Gunji will not be accepted for final selection of Yatris.
** A Yatri, disqualified on medical grounds in Delhi, will forfeit the non-refundable deposit paid to KMVN. Also, a Yatri, disqualified on medical grounds at Gunji, will forfeit the total amount paid as Yatra fees to KMVN.
** The Yatra batches will leave on scheduled dates even if replacements called from the standby lists to fill any vacancies that may arise, are unable to join the group on time.

Important Documents after Selection :
Yatris must ensure to bring following documents with them when they report in New Delhi for the Yatra after their selection :
** Ordinary Indian passport, valid for at least six months as on 01 September 2014.
** Indemnity Bond, executed on a non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.10 or as applicable locally and authenticated by a First Class Magistrate or a Notary Public. Selected Yatris are required to sign this Indemnity Bond stating that they undertake the Yatra at their own risk.
** Four recent passport size photographs.
** Undertaking for evacuation by helicopter in case of emergency.
** Consent Form for cremation of mortal remains on Chinese side in case of death there.

How to Apply? :
Apply online and then take a printout of the submitted Application with bar code and sign it. Send the signed application with following enclosures – (1) Two recent passport size photographs, and (2) Indian passport photocopies of photo page, family details page and address page – so as to be received by 10 March 2014 by ‘Attaché (China), Room No.255-A. Ministry of External Affairs, South Block, New Delhi – 110011’.

  • I have been selected in batch 9. Due to certain reasons I need to shift my batch to batch number 13. I have sent mail requests to MEA for changing the batch to 13 but haven't got a single reply yet. No one has been responding to the phone calls also.
    Kindly assist me. Whom should I contact?

  • I have selected for batch no. 13 . But I have not sent DD of 5000 as a token of acceptance. So Shall I take DD of 5000 towards my acceptance on 23 Rd 2014. Please give the information. I am very eager to go for yatra.

    • My Manasarovar Yatra,2014 is confirmed and I undertake yatra in Batch No.17. I have to be in Delhi on 11th Augst,2014 to the same.

  • Last year lieison officers name along with contact nos of Yatris selected was there in the list but this year only DOB of Yatris is given. L.O. has also till date not advised to the participants about their selection nor the emails of L O is given. Kindly advise the L O's of batches to contact / advise the Yatris along with phone/land line. So that they may be sure of their confirmation.

Our batch 12 and wait listed no 55 and 56. But till date we have not received any information. So please reply us. We are waiting for conformation. Please help us.

    In the “letter of selection dt. 30/04/2014,received today, I have been asked to pay a non refundable deposit of Rs. 5000/-
    But the full and final amt. isn’t mentioned.
    Please inform about the total costs as well.

    • Cost of Yatra: Total cost of the Yatra per Yatri will include the following:
      S.No. Amount Details of Expenditure
      1 Rs.32,000 KMVN Fees: Out of this, a non-refundable sum of Rs.5,000/- by bank demand draft payable in Delhi in favour of ‘Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited’ is to be submitted to confirm participation in the Yatra. Balance of Rs.27,000/- is payable on arrival in Delhi to begin the Yatra.
      2 Rs.2,400 Chinese visa fee.
      3 Rs.3,100 Payable in cash or by bank demand draft to 'Delhi Heart and Lung Institute' for medical tests.
      4 Rs.2,500 Payable for Stress Echo Test, if required by the medical authority.
      5 US $801(Equivalent to approximately Rs.48,861 @ Rs. 61) Payable to Chinese authorities in Tibet for lodging; meals at Taklakot; transportation, including charges for transporting baggage and hiring of horse/pony at Lipulekh Pass; entry tickets for Kailash, Manasarovar and Kejia Temple. It includes US $1 towards Immigration Fee.
      6 Rs.8,904 Porter charges for both ways on India side (subject to revision by Uttarakhand Government).
      7 Rs.10,666 Pony with Pony Handler for both ways on Indian side (subject to revision by Uttarakhand Government). For the stretch from Narayan Ashram to Lipulekh Pass and back, Yatris need to decide on hiring ponies and porters at Dharchula itself.
      8 RMB 360(Rs.3,600 approx.) Porter for both ways on Chinese side (subject to revision by Tibetan authorities).
      9 RMB 1,050(Rs.10,500 approximately) Pony with Pony Handler for both ways on Chinese side (subject to revision by Tibetan authorities). For the Kailash Parikrama in Tibet, hiring of porters and ponies will need to be decided at Taklakot itself.
      10 Rs.2,000 Contribution to Pool Money for group activities.
      11 Other expenses(Roughly estimated at Rs.20,000) Expenditure on cooks in Tibet, clothing, food stores and other items required for the Yatra. For details, confirmed Yatris may refer to the Information Guide for Yatris. Yatris should carry adequate funds for the Yatra and for unforeseen conditions.
