M.K.Nambyar Moot Court Competition 2014 :
Karnatak Law Society’s Raja Lakhamgouda Law College, Belgaum will be hosting 4th M. K. Nambyar Memorial National Level Moot Court Competition from 7th to 9th March, 2014
Language :
The language of the Competition shall be English.
Eligibility :
Law schools/Colleges/ Institutes/ Universities, recognized by the Bar Council of India, are eligible to participate in the M. K. Nambyar Memorial National Level Moot Court Competition, 2014. The participants should currently be pursuing their Bachelor’s degree in law i.e., Three Year or Five Year Law Courses.
Team Composition :
Each team shall comprise of three members (two Mooters and a Researcher).
Registration :
The Participating team shall duly fill the Registration Form provided and send it along with the Registration fee of Rs. 1500/- (Rupees one thousand five hundred only), which is not refundable. The Registration fees shall be sent through Demand Draft drawn in favor of “PRINCIPAL R. L. LAW COLLEGE, BELGAUM” PAYABLE AT BELGAUM. THE LAST DATE FOR SUBMITTING THE REGISTRATION FORM WITH FEE SHALL BE 20TH JANUARY, 2014. The first 28 teams duly registered will be considered. Each team shall be allotted a Team Code on the receipt of registration fee and form. This code is only for the purpose of drawing of lots. Spot registration will not be entertained.

Structure Of Rounds :
The oral rounds shall comprise of :
a) Preliminary Rounds
b) Quarter-final Rounds
c) Semi-final Rounds and
d) Final Round
A) Preliminary Rounds :
There shall be two Preliminary Rounds. Every team shall be given the opportunity to argue each side in the Preliminary Rounds which shall be determined by way of drawing of lots. Each team shall get a total of 30 minutes to present their case. This time will include five minutes of rebuttal. The division of time between the speakers is at the discretion of the team members, subject to a maximum of 15 minutes for any one speaker. Each team shall indicate to the court – clerk as to how it wishes to allocate its 30 minutes.
The top 8 teams based on cumulative marks (written and oral submissions) shall qualify for the Quarter final rounds.
In case of a tie, the teams shall advance to the next round on the basis of highest memorial score. If the tie is still not broken, then the highest speaker – score will determine which team advances to the Quarter final rounds. If the tie is still not broken, then the team to advance to the Quarter final rounds will be decided by drawing of lots.
B) Quarter-final Rounds :
The teams shall argue only for one side in the quarter final round. The side to be represented by the team shall be determined by way of drawing of lots. On the basis of Knockout, 4 (four) teams shall advance to the semi-final rounds. The rules governing the Preliminary rounds regarding time are applicable to quarter-final Rounds. In case of tie the highest speaker-score will determine which team advances to the semi-final rounds. If still tie is not broken then the team to advance to the semi-final rounds will be decided by drawing of lots.
C) Semi-final Rounds :
The side to be represented by the team shall be determined by way of drawing of lots. The rules governing the quarter-final round are applicable to semi-final rounds. On the basis of Knock-out, 2 (two) teams shall advance to the final round.
D) Final Round :
Each team shall get a total of 45 minutes to present their case. This time will include rebuttal. The division of the time is at the discretion of the team members, subject to a maximum of 25 minutes for any one speaker (including rebuttal time). In case of tie ,the rules governing semi-final rounds are applicable to final round
Written Submissions :
All participating teams shall submit 4 sets of written memorials (4 Petitioners and 4 Respondent memorials) & carry 4 sets of memorials with them. The Cover Pages of the memorials for the Petitioners shall be in blue and the Respondents shall be in red. The identity of the institution/team shall not be revealed, for any reason whatsoever, anywhere in the memorials, except on the first page.
A soft copy shall be mailed to mootrllc@gmail.com in Microsoft word 97 or 2003 (.doc) format on or before 10th February, 2014. Submissions in PDF and (.docx) format shall not be accepted.
The hard copies of the memorials shall be submitted on or before 20th February, 2014,failure of which may result in cancellation of team registration.
The written memorials shall conform to the set standards :
1. Written submissions shall be printed on white standard A4 size paper.
2. The font and size of the text used in all parts of the written submissions (except the covers) shall be in Times New Roman 12-point and footnotes shall be in Times New Roman size 10.
3. The text in all parts of each written submission shall have 1.5 line spacing except the text of footnotes and headings which shall be single spaced.
Note :
The comprehensive arguments with appropriate citations shall be contained in the Pleadings. The teams shall follow the 19th edition of the Bluebook mode of citation. The Pleadings shall not exceed 20 pages.

Disputes :
Any dispute about the Moot Court Competition shall be referred to the Organizing Committee before the end of the competition. In all matters of complaints or disputes, the Decision of the Organizing Committee shall be final.
Dress Code :
The official Dress Code for the Competition is as below :

Awards :
1. Winner
2. Runners – Up
3. Best Memorial

Trophies and cash prizes shall be awarded to the Winner, Runners Up, Best Memorial and Best Speakers. All participants will be awarded Certificates of Participation and the winners will receive Certificates of Merit.
Accommodation :
Outstation participants will be provided accommodation for the duration of the competition. Only the registered three (3) member team shall be provided accommodation. Any extra member shall make his/her own arrangements for the same.
