18th All India Moot Court Competition 2014 :
Society of Mooters,the student body of University Law College, is proud to organize The XVIII edition of The All India Moot Court Competition at the national level. This body has been taking the initiative of organizing various legal activities in the college like Mock Parliaments, Law Fests, etc. over the years. The Society of Mooters has earned a reputation for conducting the Annual Moot Court Competition, an event that distinguishes itself from others due to its fairness and transparency. This competition is known to bring some of the best legal minds from across the country together to compete and interact with each other. The All India Moot Court Competition organized by ULC has been listed as one among the top Indian Moot Court Competitions by “Mooting Premier League”.

This year, Society of Mooters has entered its Eighteenth Year making it one of the oldest Moot Court Competitions in India, yet going strong by stimulating legal minds across India and has come up with the ‘XVIIIth All India Moot Court Competition, 2014’ which promises to achieve its basic aim of providing legal minds to express and discuss their opinions on different facets of law.

The All India Moot Court Competetion, ULC is held at the University Law College, Jnanabharathi Campus, Bangalore University,Bangalore,Karnataka in the month of February every year.

The 18th Competition is being held at the aforementioned venue. The moot problem, the rules of the competition and the tentative schedule are available on this website.

Rules And Regulations :
Date and Venue :
21st, 22nd, 23rd February 2014 at the University Law College, Jnana Bharathi Campus, Bangalore University, Bangalore- 560056.

Dress Code :
Formal wear

Ladies :
Indian / western formal wear (white and black with black blazer)

Gentlemen :
White shirt, black tie and black trousers with black blazer.

Language :
The entire proceedings in the competition, written as well as oral, shall be exclusively in English.

Eligibility :
The competition is open for law students currently pursuing their Bachelors degree in law i.e. 3 Year LL.B. Programme or 5 Year LL.B. Programme.

Team Composition :
** Each team shall consist of a minimum of 2 and maximum of 3 members. This number cannot be modified under any circumstances.
** Each team shall include two speakers, who may be accompanied by one researcher, all of whom shall have to be accordingly designated during the registration process. Each team will have a team code and each member shall be given an individual code. The team code shall be sent to the teams through mail and/or shall be informed over telephone. The respective team codes have to be mentioned in the right top corner of the cover page of the memorials.
** Teams shall not disclose their identity or of their institution or city, etc.; such disclosure shall invite penalties including disqualification. The decision for the same shall be at the discretion of the organizers.

Registration :
** Registration for the competition has to be done in two stages.
** Firstly, Registration of the teams is to be done on or before 17th January, 2014, through E-mail only. The registration shall be sent only to ulcmoot2014 AT gmail.com with the subject being ‘Registration’. The registration should contain the details of the students taking part in the competition. The registration shall be confirmed by the Society of Mooters within 72 hours in receipt of the registration mail.
** Secondly, the filled registration forms which contain the details of students taking part should be received latest by 20th January, 2014. Law Schools/Colleges sending registration form without prior registration through email shall not be considered for the competition. The registration form shall contain the details of the participants and sign and seal of the principal along with the seal of the college.
** Registration forms are also available online. Teams may download the forms from website and post it to the postal address mentioned in Clause 20(1) along with a cover letter addressed to the Principal, University Law College.
** Number of teams participating will be limited to 28 teams on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Rounds :
There will be two preliminary rounds of argument, a semi-final and a final round. A quarter final round may be held prior to the semi-finals, at the discretion of the Society of Mooters. If the same is decided the teams will be intimated through mail/telephone/SMS. The researcher shall have a test based on general issues surrounding the problem and the subject of the Problem.

Preliminary Round :
** Orientation and draw of lots will be on 21st February evening (Friday).
** The preliminary round will be held on 22nd February (Saturday).
** The preliminary round will be divided into two sessions.
** The quarter finals (if held) will be a knockout round
** Top four teams will qualify for the semi finals that will be held on 23rd February (Sunday)
** The qualification to the knockout stage (quarter finals or semi finals) will be based on
a) 2 :0 win: loss ratio
b) In case of a tie, teams with the highest aggregate of scores in the preliminary round (inclusive of memorial marks) will be considered.
c) If, even after addition of memorial marks, a tie subsists, then the team, whose researcher has scored higher marks in the test, shall move into the knock out round..

Semi Final and Final Rounds :
** The semi finals will be a knock out round evaluated only on the Oral arguments. Two teams that score the maximum marks in the semi finals will move on to the final round. Memorial marks will not be accounted for in deciding the finalists. In case of a tie, teams scoring the highest points in their preliminary round will move into the final round.
** The Finals will be held on 23rd February (Sunday – Afternoon).

Memorials :
A) The following requirements must be strictly followed with respect to submission of memorials. Non-conformities will be liable to penalties while awarding marks thereon.
** Each team must prepare memorials for both sides of the Moot Court problem (Petitioner and Respondent).
** The memorials shall be consistent with the Supreme Court Rules.
** Once the memorials have been submitted, no revisions, supplements, or additions will be allowed.
** Teams shall send a soft-copy of Memorials in Adobe PDF format only via. Electronic mail to ulcmoot2014 AT gmail.com on or before1st February, 2014.
** Teams shall also send Eight Copies for both the sides of the memorials, on or before 5th February by 5 p.m., typed on A4 size paper printed on one side and must contain :
1. Cause Title (Identity of the College/Participants should not be disclosed).
2. The table of contents.
3. The index of authorities.
4. Synopsis.
5. The statement of jurisdiction.
6. The statement of facts (1 page only).
7. The statement of issues.
8. The summary of arguments (1 page only).
9. The arguments advanced (20 pages).
10. The prayer.

Annexures are not allowed.

Font size : 12 and for footnotes, 10
Line Spacing : 1.5, Margin: 1 inch

Memorials should be spiral bound and not stapled

C) Covers must be placed on memorials as follows :
Petitioner – Blue Colour,
Respondent- Red/Pink Colour.

Accommodation, Food and Transport :
** Accommodation-Accommodation shall be provided only to the outstation teams on the days of the competition only i.e. from 21st to 23rd February, 2014. It shall be extended to the members of the team (maximum three) only. Team(s) shall be responsible for any/all damages caused by them during their stay.
** Food-Food shall be provided to all the teams only on the three days of the competition
** Transport-Transportation between the hotel and the college for the participating teams will be provided.
** The teams shall bear any expenses with regard to an extra member and the organizers are in no way liable for any expenses of such a membe

e. Best Memorial

Along with the Awards, the winner/s of the respective award shall get a certificate of Merit and every Participant will be given Certificate of Appreciation. Certificates shall be given only after the Valedictory function and for no reason prior to it. Under any circumstance the Certificate of Appreciation/merit and awards will not be couriered.

All the queries regarding the problem, rules and regulations shall be mailed to ulcmootqueries14 AT gmail.com with a subject of Query (ies) in it and the same will be cleared by the organizers’. Any queries after 21st January, 2014, with regard to problem will not be entertained, except at the sole discretion of the organizers’.

For Accommodation and Transportation :
All teams shall send their travel plan along with the filled registration form prior to their arrival. All teams will be picked from the respective Bus stand /Railway station by our College representatives. The participants are requested to arrange for the same from the airport with the assistance of our college representatives.
