CENTRAL TRAINING INSTITUTE FOR INSTRUCTORS :
ABOUT THE INSTITUTE :
The Central Training Institute for Instructors, Chennai was established in the year 1962 by the Govt. of India under the Ministry of Labour, DGE&T with the assistance of International Labour Organisation (ILO). The Institute is located on the Grand Southern Trunk Road, adjoining the Industrial Estate at Guindy and is well connected by the Suburban Electric Train service and other transport systems. This institute is just 5 kms. from the Chennai International Airport and about 13 kms. from the Chennai Central Railway Station.
The primary function of this Institute is to train the Vocational Instructors required by the various Industrial Training Institutes, Industrial training centres and other training establishments. Subsequently, Model Training Institute was also created in February 1965 with 15 Vocational trades to enable the Instructor trainees to have practice teaching and also to have first hand knowledge of organising classes, workshop, record maintenance etc.The Institute also caters to the needs of many developing countries for training of their instructors and tradesmen by arranging special training programmes. The Institute has well-equipped workshops, laboratories and other infrastructural facilities for carrying out the various training programmes to meet the current developments in the field of Instructor Training. It has also highly experienced faculty members.
INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAMME :
OBJECTIVES :
1. To develop the skills required to analyse a trade syllabus and to plan and organise trade training in practical skills and related instructions.
2. To provide training in the methods and applications of instruction for effective learning of trade skills together with techniques of evaluating the work of trainees.
3. To design and administer criterion based tests.
4. To promote a sense of responsibility for the proper up-keep of the equipment, tools and other materials entrusted to the care of the instructor, and the ability to maintain and operate the system of record-keeping in practice.
5. To understand one’s deficiencies in the trade area (practical and the theoretical) and over-come their short-coming so that full technical competence is achieved.
6. To encourage an appreciation for the need to keep abreast with current development both in the techniques of his trade and methods of instruction.
7. To equip the instructor with an understanding of labour and management relationship for preparing his trainees for their entry and progress into their new careers in industrial environment.
CRAFTSMEN TRAINING PROGRAMME :
Minimum Qualification for Admission :
** Pass in 10th standard under 10+2 system or its equivalent except for the trade of C&T, Pattern Maker and COPA.
** For C&T and Pattern Maker, the minimum qualification is pass in VIII standard and for COPA the minimum qualification is passed 12th standard under 10+2 system of education or passed 3 years Diploma in any branch of Engineering from a recognised Polytechnic or its equivalent.
Age :
Candidates seeking admission to the courses should be within the age limit of 14-25 years. In the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste / Tribe the upper age limit is relaxable upto 5 years. The upper age limit is also relaxed for Physically Handicapped persons by 10 years.
Details common to CTI and MTI Training Programme :
1. Library :
A well-equipped library with reference and lending facilities is available. Lending facilities are extended to instructor trainees and participants of short-term training programmes.
2. Caution Deposit :
Caution deposit and library deposit paid by the trainees are refundable after deduction of dues, if any, on completion of courses.
3. Reservation of seats for the courses :
20% of seats are reserved for persons belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes and 3% for Physically Handicapped.
10 seats are reserved for wards of the Defence personnel etc. as per priority
4. Identification Card :
All trainees are required to possess identity cards issued by the Institute for which photographs are to be submitted by the trainees at the time of admission. Trainees will not be permitted to enter the Institute or hostel premises without the Identity card
