Domicile/Residence Certificate :
A Domicile/Residence Certificate is generally issued to prove that the person bearing the Certificate is a Domicile/Resident of the State/UT by which the Certificate is being issued. This Certificate is required as proof of residence to avail Domicile/Resident Quotas in educational institutions and in the Government Service, as also in case of jobs where local residents are preferred.
Eligibility :
The parents/guardians of the applicant or the applicants themselves should have permanently resided continuously for a period of five years or more in Tamil Nadu.
Women not originally belonging to a State/UT, but married to men who are permanent residents of the State/UT are eligible to apply for Domicile Certificate.

Note :
Domicile Certificate can be made only in one State/UT. Obtaining Domicile Certificate from more than one State/UT is an offence.
Procedure :
The prescribed application forms are either available online or from the local authorities, i.e. the Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Tehsildar’s office/Revenue Department/District Collector’s Office, or any other authority as specified in the State/UT of your residence.
You will be required to produce proof of continuous residence in the State/UT for a specified minimum period, or that of holding land in the State/UT, depending on the rules in the State/UT concerned.
Documents for proving your identity, attestation of the form by officers with the necessary authority, school certificates and the Tehsil Enquiry Report may also be required.

Required Documents :
Permanently residing for a period of five years should be supported by documentary evidence.
The Family Ration Card, Electoral Roll, documents like Sale Deed, Tax Receipt, etc., relating to the property owned by either of the parents or by the applicant, are required.
The Transfer Certificate issued by the School authorities where the applicant had studied last can also be used to prove whether the applicant was in the state for five years.
Enquiry will be made in the nieghbourhood to ascertain the facts regarding continuous residence.
Validity :
The validity period of this certificate has been enhanced to life long as per GO

The process is usually completed within a week’s time.

My husband has completed his studies in Tamil Nadu. Right now, from past 15 years he is serving in public sector, odisha. We have property in TamilNadu and intend to settle down there in future. Now, can our son get Tamilnadu domicile? Please clarify and how to apply for residential certificate online. We are only able to download the application form.
I want a pan card for my wife. She is in ninth standard and have a transfer certificate. Pan card application does not accept this proof for birth day. Some other my friends told me to get domicile certificate for birth. Please suggest this matter
Is domicile same as native certificate?
I need the living certificate in Coimbatore. I approach to the form filler in the roadside form vendor in the out of tashildar office. They told me, you will be attached the ration card, house tax receipt also. In this case, I do not have ration card, I hold only voter id card. But this voter id address is Udumalpet. I have gas connection & bank passbook in the address of Coimbatore. Then how can I get the living certificate?
