Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) is a quality system of management controls that has been developed for research laboratories and similar bodies so as to ensure the regularity, homogeneity, dependability, reproducibility, quality, and integrity of chemical (including medical drugs) non-clinical safety tests; from physio-chemical attributes via a series of acute to chronic toxicity tests.
GLP is applicable to non-clinical experiments and studies conducted to determine the safety &/or efficacy of chemicals to humans, animals and also the environment.
Manufacturers of various industrial synthetic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides / insecticides, pharmacy drugs, cosmetic & food products, feed additives and others, are required by law, to establish through data the safety of these products so that public health and ecology are not jeopardized. Following of the GLP guidelines helps assure regulatory agencies that the data collected and submitted by the manufacturer are true and a precise representation of the results obtained in the course of the study and can thus be relied upon when conducting risk/safety assessments.
Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) is evidently an organized structure that has evolved from “Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development” (OECD) which helps accomplish the required goals. In 1972, New Zealand was the first country where GLP was put into place. This was followed by Denmark in the same year, and then a few years later in 1978 by the US. The OECD formally put forward the Principles of GLP in 1992; and has since then provided support to implement GLP guidelines in many countries.
There is an immense need in the industry for people who are trained and certified in Good Laboratory Practices.
GLP guidelines are now used in the evaluation of safety & efficacy of the several therapeutic drugs & devices for human & animal use. They are also followed in the evaluation of chemicals for pests & insects, synthetic chemicals for various dyes, detergents, toners etc. as well as several other biologics such as antibiotics & hormonal solutions.
James Lind Institute endeavors in providing to individuals an online Good Laboratory Practice Training & Certification program who aspire to be certified in GLP.
Course duration :
Self Paced No minimum duration (Maximum duration 3 months)
In case of failure to complete the GLP Certification Exam within 3 months of admission, or in case of failing the Certification Exam a reactivation of the students training account (for 3 more months) is required. Reactivation fee is 50% of the initial fee paid.
Certification Exam :
Upon completion of the training an online certification examination of 1 hour duration is conducted. The examination contains multiple choice and short answer type questions. The overall passing score for obtaining the GLP Certification is 60%.
